• Phosphates have gone up, what to do?

  • Sarah

Hello everyone? To begin with: the aquarium is young, about a month and a half old. At first, brown algae naturally appeared, but now they have stopped and are gradually disappearing. However, now green algae are starting to grow, and the phosphate level has increased to one, while the other parameters are normal. Could the reason be these algae? There are a small number of soft corals in the aquarium, and one clownfish is swimming around. The corals are doing well. I would be very grateful for your responses.

On the contrary. Algae are a consequence of phosphates. Waiting for everything to settle down, the algae will consume the phosphates and then die off themselves. The skimmer will remove their decaying remains from the water. If it doesn't clear up in a couple of months, you can try the Vodka Method, but be careful.

So we'll be waiting :). I'm just curious, will it harm the corals? I currently have two Ksyukhas and a lot of zoanthids, and a trio of feather worms.

The main thing is that they don't grow on the corals. By the way, for now, bright light can be set for 4 hours, and the rest of the time blue; that's enough for the corals and will reduce algae. There are many topics about phosphates on the forum.
