• My new reef without a sump 60x40x45

  • Robin

On May 2, 2012, I finally launched my new marine aquarium, measuring 60x40x45cm, with a water capacity of approximately 84 liters. I'm trying to start it up using only dry reef rocks (10kg) and adding Prodibio bacteria (1 ampoule each of Stop Ammo Start, Biodigest Start, Biodigest, Bioptim) on the first day. I understand that live rocks would be a much better option, as I experienced with my previous 35x35x35cm cube, which didn't even have a cyanobacteria outbreak. However, I don't want to deal with the hassle of removing various pests and Palolo worms. I'm considering adding some live rocks to the hang-on-back filter, so the worms won't get into the main tank, and the bacteria can start colonizing the rocks. I don't plan to introduce any livestock for at least a month. The equipment I have includes a Deltec MCE 300 protein skimmer and a VorTech MP10 pump. I'm also thinking of adding a KORALIA NANO 900 to provide better water flow behind the rocks. The lighting system consists of a controller with 9 WBR stars, each with 3 CREE LEDs of 3W, plus 2 ATI Actinic 24W NEW and 1 ATI Purple Plus 24W NEW lamps. I haven't turned on the lights yet, as I haven't suspended the fixture. I've added about 6-7kg of CaribSea Aragalive Bahamas Oolite sand, creating a layer of approximately 1.5cm. I'll take photos once the lighting is set up. As always, I welcome any constructive criticism and suggestions on how I can improve
