Congratulations on the launch, wishing you a successful and interesting journey!!! If you have installed such a filter, then while the sponge and synthetic fiber are in place, rinse them at least twice a week... Your color reproduction is a bit off; when you take photos, if possible, play around with the white balance settings, as it’s hard to identify the creatures, probably some kind of algae-eating snail, check if you can find a similar one. There’s not enough light, you will need to add at least one more lamp, but for now, it will be enough for the launch. Have you measured the ammonium?
Lynn4242
Regarding the light, I think I'll add 2 more compacts, but a bit later. As for the ammonia, the test will only arrive on Tuesday (they messed up the delivery).
Mark7376
Hello! Congratulations on the start!
One thing is unclear: why is the filter submerged? There is a risk of immersion, right? And it's really big and takes up a lot of useful space.
Raise it properly, and if you want to keep it, throw some rubble in it (live rocks) - it will resemble a sump, but it would be better to pull it out and hang it as a refugium.
And replace the pump with a Nano Coral.
It's better to remove the wreck and install a light fixture, especially with summer ahead.
Emily3506
- Well, then cut the lid.
- Even if the temperature isn't a problem, the sea with the lamp feels somehow more familiar.
I also had a lid at the beginning, but I don't have it now.
Christopher3770
so far everything is like this:
Mario
Background.
Buy arakal at the wallpaper market or from a bird. Take Mr. Muscle, a credit card, and stick it all together. It will look very nice.
I liked how the stones are arranged.
Good luck!
Janet5447
Thank you, I will do that.))
Sarah
Here is a good guide to illegal wildlife, look for your snail here.
Julie3950
I found Heliacus (Zoanthid Predator) and what to do with it?
Derek7322
There was an idea about filtration: what if I use a Resun CY-20 with Seachem fillers: Matrix, Denitrate, Purigen? This filter can be easily hidden behind the aquarium, and I could even install two filters for the volume, as the hoses from the external filter are much smaller than those of an internal filter.
Veronica
Aptazia?
And who is this?:
Here are some general shots taken with a tripod (I think they turned out better):
James5103
She is the one
Looks like lips
Alec9378
100% this is Aiptasia, remove it immediately, or you will have problems later...
As for the photo, it's definitely better with a tripod, but the color reproduction is still incorrect, it's too blue. In the camera settings, there is a white balance adjustment; play around with it, set it to 10000K if possible, or experiment with preset settings like indoors or cloudy. In general, point the camera at the aquarium and adjust the settings until you see natural colors on the screen like in the aquarium.)))
Collin
It's interesting... I was away from home for half a day - the aquarium has brightened up, nitrites and nitrates have dropped, to be precise, by half compared to this morning? I understand this is the work of live rock? =)
Oh, we'll be playing with the camera =)
Michelle1662
What to use for extermination? Aiptasia-X? P.S. Have you seen how they exterminate with lemon juice? Will it work?
Nancy758
Try to use juice if possible, just don't shift the pH with it, I personally couldn't inject mine, they immediately hide...
Kenneth7210
So, in terms of colors, this is the closest I could get:
...but it's still far from ideal (I'm not very good with the camera settings, but I will keep trying).
John3432
You can also use calcium hydroxide. I would introduce the shrimp Lysa wundermanni.
Maria6659
It's not a problem to get it started, but the aquarium will only be set up on Friday evening... I don't know what will happen with the shrimp, whether it will live or not.
Amber6362
I'm looking for this shrimp, but so far I can't find it, so it's not that easy to buy...
Andrea9320
I still think it's too early to get pets... everything is very unstable right now (although I can only judge from personal experience with a freshwater aquarium). However, there is a VERY BIG temptation to get an ophiuroid (I've only seen small white ones), a shrimp, a strombus, and I won't even mention fish... =))
Barbara8192
Well, actually, these shrimp are often found in iRife.
Tracy4603
The photo is great, I think it won't get better with T5. It's better to remove the aiptasia now mechanically, by scraping it out and using boiling water from a syringe. The Lysa wundermanni shrimp are a waste of money. They constantly hide and are of no use, and the videos showing them destroying aiptasia feature just one small rock with aiptasia in an empty aquarium and a dozen shrimp that are simply starving it to death.
Erin2730
Ah, is this also apathy?
Sydney
It's not visible!
Monique1236
It looks like a Hypatia that is hiding, but it cannot be stated with 100% certainty, it's hard to see.
Sydney
It's better to take a photo while it's not possible yet; for now, I can see three such "bushes" sitting in the crevices, different from yesterday in every way: these are bigger, their legs are not visible, a different color, more tentacles, a different appearance... I'm waiting for more to come out and will try to take a photo...
Jason
Dear forum members, could you please tell me where I can buy macroalgae?
Elizabeth
Regarding the filter, I will buy an external one tomorrow (to be honest, I just don't want a hang-on). As for the lighting, I have an idea to install an MH lamp in the lid along with what is currently there (I can't decide on the fixtures yet; I'll first see how they look live on the aquarium).
Jonathan6173
this is a very bad idea, MH is not a "tube", it "heats and cooks" well, it is only placed in a fixture that hangs 15-20 cm above the water, and the cover itself will melt. and you need MH at 70W, which are rare here. the most optimal is T5 24W 3-4 pieces, half of which should be blue. which fixture they will be in (San-San, AlexLog, ATI, etc.) depends only on your financial situation, any of them will suit your volume.
David953
I have a question about lighting. If I were to get these two lamps, I honestly don't want to buy fixtures because "everything big starts small." Knowing myself, once I start this aquarium and stop being a "newbie" in the hobby, I will want to set up a larger tank, and I can't imagine where to put all these fixtures, lids, etc. I already have a lot of equipment from freshwater aquariums lying around unused (various filters, UV sterilizers, compressors, lamps, ballasts, tubes, etc.), and I really don't want to add more. So for now, I will think about the lid, and if it becomes absolutely necessary, then I will buy the fixtures.
William5838
If you mean an external biofilter, that's nonsense; no one installs them in the sea. It's better to buy a hang-on skimmer; there seems to be a decent one. You should read the forum about setups; many questions will be answered. You can leave the lighting alone for now; you don't need it at the moment, and later you'll get either MH or T5 anyway. Current and filtration are all you need for now.
P.S. I see you have an internal filter; I just didn't realize it right away since it was sitting on the bottom.
Melanie
I want to install a small external filter instead of the internal one that is currently in place. I will put Seachem media inside the external filter (I'll try it out, and if I don't like it, it won't be difficult to remove). I thought about a protein skimmer, but I don't want to place it inside since there's already little space...
Christopher3770
Well, I advised you to use an external hanging filter with 2-3 compartments, and a skimmer should be external, not internal. The perfect option for you is just a hanging one, or you can set up a sump.
Robert5335
Why a hang-on filter? Will it be better than an external one? I was thinking of getting one like that.
Danielle
Yes, this is an external biofilter, why do you need it? You will take a long time to populate it with bacteria, it's not fresh water, and when the power goes out for an hour, the bacteria will die, and then all that mess will go into your aquarium. Maybe someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but at one time I thought the same way as you.
Here is +antiphosphate+carbon.
Zoe7451
If I remove the lid and place a light fixture, will the evaporation of water leave a mark above the aquarium or not?
Raven7170
Don't worry about the lighting; it's soft enough as it is. This aquarium reminds me of a laptop that gradually accumulates peripherals over time. For now, this volume is enough to play around with. Appetite comes with eating. Later, you can make it bigger and do it properly.
Nicholas
Is it an optical illusion or has the tabletop really warped that much?
Ryan
It seems that the lid is flat =) P.S. I shot a little below the lid and at an angle, plus it is oval, so that's how it turned out =)
Adam
Good evening!
Today, three types of caulerpa were planted in the aquarium, for which I am very grateful!!!
I would also like to note that the aquarium is actively "maturing": the sand and rocks are covered with a brown film. I plan to plant a few strombus and an ophiuroid on Friday (maybe you can recommend someone else?).
Photos of the aquarium at the moment:
Eric8832
small hermits (shell about 1-1.5 cm long) a dozen, a large one can be mischievous.
Tkach had them in the airif as well.
Andrew7823
Such a question about hermit crabs: will they settle in such shells, or choose from here? And the most important question is whether the small hermit crabs will oppress the strombus?
Tanya
No little ones. Even 5 cm strombus in the sink weren't touched, but it doesn't always turn out that way. By the way, there are also different species of hermits. Blue-legged fierce creatures. P.S. Tkach had some great ones... tiny ones starting from 0.5 cm. Good aquarium cleaners.
Jenny
They won't fit in these sinks; they are narrow and long, we need sinks of the "rapan" type.
Stacy6866
Max, I have about 4 of them living in a larger shell for about 3 months now.
------
I just went and checked. They actually live in a bigger shell. So sorry for the incorrect info.
Kevin
How does he carry such a shell? Poor thing.
Anthony4281
If it's dragging, that's a good sign. It means it's healthy and strong. But if it stops dragging, that's a bad sign. Usually, they hide behind rocks for a few days before molting and stay there while they molt, and then for a couple more days after molting until the shell hardens. But you need to keep an eye on it because if the claws get stuck together, it will be trouble for the aquarium.
Kenneth7331
For this, you need to introduce small brittle stars. They consume dead matter instantly.
Natasha
Dear !
You are right! But I would like to draw your attention to the first post of the topic starter.
1. The aquarium is 62 liters, which cannot be considered large.
2. There is no mention of a protein skimmer, meaning it is not present.
Based on this, I believe that the death of the hermit crab could disrupt the system, and scavengers will not solve all the problems; it will be necessary to replace 50% of the water, and the system will not recover very quickly. In any case, it will take a couple of weeks to observe the growth of cyanobacteria and lower algae.
And one should not rely on chemicals!
I think it is not in vain that on AquaLogo aquarium owners are divided into two forums - those with tanks under 100 liters and those with tanks over 100 liters.
Stephen5841
In paragraph 54, the emphasis is not on small and still unstable systems. This is evident from the first lines.
Guy
Hello everyone
I'll start in order:
First: I modified the aquarium lid, specifically by adding another 15-watt lamp (now there are 4 lamps of 15 watts), a "moon" light with LEDs, and installed a cooler (on a timer along with the lamps).
Second: instead of an internal filter, I installed an external one (inside there are live rocks).
Third: I bought 2 brittle stars, a Thor shrimp, and 5 snails (I honestly forgot the names, but they are definitely not trombus or astrea; they are currently busily crawling around the aquarium and eating cyanobacteria off the rocks).
I also admit that I couldn't resist and bought a pulsating Xenia and a small rock with zoanthids.
Chris
Hello everyone!
I have a question about lighting, I created a topic with my lid.
The question is: should I add more compacts or LEDs? Or is everything fine?
I would appreciate any thoughts and ideas.
Matthew1280
I think we've had enough light, especially with summer ahead. For now, let's see how these lamps will heat the water.
Tracy
As long as the water temperature during the day and night is 24-25 degrees, this is just with coolers without air conditioning; we will see how it goes. P.S. One cooler (24/7) is powered by a 3-watt power supply, the other by a 9-watt one; if needed, I will connect both to the 9-watt supply.
Jeffrey
Then, in the clearings, to the left and right, near the fans, you can install LED lights. (White - Royal - Blue) - set them up for smooth on and off. But that's if there's a desire.
And the lamps will diversify the spectrum.
Earl
What kind of Royal is it?
Jeffery
Blue
Christopher8654
Royal Blue.

New photos of my aquarium:
Allison
Isn't there a lot of different equipment in the aquarium? By the way, what are those white spots on the stones? Overall, it's a nice aquarium.
Ross
a little)) there is just an internal UV filter now, I'll take it out of the aquarium in a few hours =)
Karen1649
Can you show me a clearer example of it? Because I need the same one, and I haven't come across it yet... And what about the dots?
Brooke
I am just looking at them for now and can't say what it is...
Elizabeth882
I have some like that too, but much smaller. I think it's calcium buildup... Or something in that line...
Natalie
It resembles a worm's shell in shape... about 1mm in size... I can't examine it more closely for now.
Christopher8654
ringed worms. But I’m not sure what they are called correctly. I have many of them too, on the stones and on the glass.
Debra6575
I see Melanopus in the aquarium! Have they been settled for a long time? Are they the same size now? Have they formed a pair? Have they found a place to sleep? I see one has completely lost the middle white stripe. They are beautiful!
Christopher4108
Thank you!)) I've had them for a little over a month, I formed a couple just a couple of days ago, their sizes are a bit different (I initially got the same size), both are already living in the tank (previously only the female) + they love to spin around in the euphyllia during the day.
Guy
poor Helmon
Martha
why?
Laura7633
he has little space. Has he been swimming for a long time? Is he eating?
Jeremy8404
My helmon's behavior is active, it swims, and after the purchase, it has gained color. It eats, and I try to diversify its menu as much as possible, taking both sinking and floating food. To be honest, I don't notice anything wrong with its behavior...
Andrew7823
well, that's good, let it live
Dennis
Here it is
Martin3206
It would be nice to see an overall view instead of just individual photos of corals.
Kevin3579
How is Helmon feeling? Has he been with you for a month? Is he growing? I'm wondering if it's worth putting the same one in Resan 500.
Heather2018
here is the video
Melanie
it's not worth it
Patricia
A competent aquarium. Otherwise, is the nauplius of Artemia hovering in the water column? If this is how the issue of feeding Helmon is resolved, then he will live long and happily in this aquarium. For this butterfly, the volumes are not as important as the feed base and a stable, even if small, reef.
