I inherited a marine aquarium. Please help me with some advice - what and how? Brief information about the aquarium: 500 liters (100x50x100). 2 canister filters. One internal filter is installed with an air diffuser. Fish: 5 clownfish, 1 yellow tang, and 1 Picasso triggerfish. Questions: how to prepare water for water changes? Can I

strange system, is there a sample? don't rush with new fish, first understand and figure out this system. are there live rocks? if so, how many kg? what else is there besides these canister filters?

Elizabeth882

Strange system, but is there a sump? Don't rush with new fish; first, understand and sort out this system. Are there live rocks? If so, how many kg? What else is there besides these canister filters? You can't even call it a system. One Tetra 2400 canister filter, one EHEIM 3 professional, one internal Jebo, and a tube from it for aeration. Everything has been set up for five years now. The clownfish have also been living for five years, and the spiny puffer for two years. There is nothing alive besides the fish. And what is a sump?

Randall7906

There is a forum. I met people from Yekaterinburg there. It will be easier for you to meet in person and communicate, to show your aquarium; it will be simpler than explaining with words. Good luck!

Tonya

Not the case... the source water, the best, is prepared based on reverse osmosis. Such systems are definitely sold in your city. Buy one, and don't bother with activated carbon, especially since many brands contain phosphates. But even phosphate-free carbon won't give you the desired quality of source water if you have sensitive fish in mind (then you'll have to say goodbye to Picasso), for fish it might be acceptable... Why do you think so? Quite the opposite... It would be nice to at least see a photo of that aquarium...

Anne

We have the sea closer.

Andrew4194

Ah, well, yes...

Amanda

Offtopic Yeah - from me it's generally 3 minutes on a bicycle, that's more - however, J.K. (living stones) was ordered from Kyiv.

Erin2730

It's okay, Sanya, just a month more and you'll start practicing with a net on the shore, looking for sand hermits, catching little dogs, and Palemons in the rocks...

Leslie

Offtopic I'm really planning to go to the sea for the holidays - I'll definitely catch some palemon - hardly any dogs. I'm so intrigued by Sharkan's "crayfish" and "dogs" from the Black Sea Fleet that I've been itching to try it for a long time. If I get the hang of catching creatures, I can send them to all my "friends" - free of charge out of a sense of patriotism for the craft. It's awkward to flood the topic, but I'll take the risk - will the sand "bocce" live in our aquariums??? They will stir up the sand...

Michael3221

The aquarium is even embarrassing to show. Its dimensions are 100x50x100. There's nothing to see there. Just ceramics and dead corals (you can't even call this stuff corals). Moreover, everything is dirty. I would also like to ask if it's possible to bleach corals in a marine aquarium.

Emily3144

How is it? 100x50x100 cm DSHV? 1 m in height?

Dana6523

1 meter in length, 1 meter in height, and 50 cm in width.

Kimberly4253

At that height of the pole without a lightning rod, it won't survive. Lightning strikes don't penetrate that layer of water. And why is there ceramics there?

Nicholas2252

When a person wants an aquarium, I try to guide them towards a shape that is more or less suitable for aquatic life. Often, this works out. Not everyone, especially those who are not familiar with aquaristics, understands that fish swim from left to right and vice versa, rather than from top to bottom.

Tasha

Something tells me that this is about freshwater "under the sea" - sorry if I'm wrong and offended you. That's just how it seemed to me.

Samuel6138

I didn't understand - who won't survive? And the ceramics are for decoration. You can't put live stones, so they used ceramics instead.

Christopher4125

If only... This sea is so

Joseph2576

Natalia - I am just learning, but it seems to me that everything needs to be redone, starting with proper filtration and without MH lighting, it definitely won't work here - a meter thick layer of mulm may look impressive, but it's impossible to illuminate such depths with T5 lamps.

Erin2730

There is no spam here. I just lost track regarding the side swimmer; if you have the opportunity, take it and don't think twice. For M.A. (marine aquarium), it's the right creatures...

Tina

I agree. I have the impression that the aquarium was prepared for freshwater, and after it was made, they suddenly decided to turn it into a marine one with a silly light fixture. Moreover, the lid-light was made by someone who is convinced that the aquarium can last forever without maintenance.

Richard2180

In fact, I don't see any effect in it at all - it's been so decorated. I would have made it bland altogether, and for the sea, I would have created something completely different with a proper system and lighting. But no one wants to invest in this aquarium.

Mariah

Well, in a marine aquarium, you won't get anything decent without investments...

Rebecca1419

the right decision, but if you decide to limit yourself to fish, then you can also "struggle" with the "gift-inheritance"

Melinda

I mean attachments to redo.

April3499

I would suggest raising the issue with the owners regarding such a lid on the edge. Either dispose of it and replace it with a proper (metal suspended) light fixture with a metal halide lamp, made according to all safety regulations, or goodbye. This will be a ticking time bomb that will bring you nothing but problems and troubles over time. Especially considering that it was made by "specialists" of questionable quality...

Debbie3587

And could you tell me, how long can one "suffer"? Will the fish live?

Joseph1346

I am already casting a line in this regard. In the meantime, we have installed two retractable (for maintenance) lights for receiving such "inheritance." Before that, they had only one (!!!) four-year-old 36-watt lamp, which made the aquarium look like a cave.

Natasha

What's the point? Buying fish just for them to die regularly?

David4089

Clowns have been living there for the fifth year now, a chrysipter and a spinorog.

Jeffery7866

Here is such a lamp + an external Deltec 600 skimmer + a couple of pumps at 5000 l/hour... And the aquarium with fish and zoanthids is ready )))) If you look for everything used, I think you can invest around 500-550 bucks... Anything less than this setup is a waste of time...

Gregory

Yes, "clowns, chrysipterus, and spinorhynchus" will be able to live under these conditions, just make sure to do the substitutions and feed them in moderation. The answer you received is more about your safety and fire safety in the apartment/house.

Lynn4242

Read this topic, it will surely help you:

Gregory

Will the zebrasoma and the fox live here?

Brandy1134

In my memory, there was a case when the office almost caught fire due to a cover made under the guidance of an amateur sailor. The fire department extinguished it in time. The product was made so poorly and with cost-cutting on parts (for their own pocket, of course) that condensation got onto the terminals, resulting in a short circuit. So make sure to thoroughly check your so-called removable lights.

Elizabeth882

There will be. However, the conditions need to be improved significantly. Otherwise, you will be drawn into a prolonged struggle with crypto and so on.

Yvette209

An aquarium is not just "a place where fish live." An aquarium is a piece of nature that we try to recreate at home using various tricks.

Robert5335

On the canisters, zebra som and lo (fox)? I doubt it, as I'm not sure that with a beginner's experience you can ensure the water quality needed; at a minimum, you need to add a flocculator for 500-1000 liters, meaning you will need to make a sump. P.S. Until you figure everything out, do not add fish.

Natasha

I understand. Thank you! I really want to create a PROPER aquarium!!! I can't stand fixing other people's mistakes. I won't despair, of course. I will keep casting lines regarding a new aquarium. I think it's impossible to set up a system in this one.

Bryan1851

Well, why not, it's possible. The main issue is the light. A sump, a skimmer, etc. can be installed in the cabinet if there is one. You can put a VERY good sump in a meter cabinet.

Kenneth7210

The cabinet is there. But its dimensions... If only the meter of the cabinet were solid... But it's divided into two halves. The aquarium is big and heavy, you can't remove the division. Only the canisters just barely fit in it.

Dana4701

Do we need to create the samples ourselves or are there ready-made ones? Like the Riff systems from before, for example.

Leah

And why am I asking about the fish? Will it survive? One of our local companies told the owners of this aquarium that everything is fine and everything will live.

Michelle13

And the aborigines who have already adapted to "Chernobyl" won't kick the bucket??? From clean air - just like that - bam ... ???

Leah

Artificial corals can be bleached with bleach, which will eat away at the organic material, but they need to be rinsed very well afterward. Of course, it shouldn't be pure bleach; for 50 grams of bleach, use 10 liters of water, for example, and let them soak there for an hour or two. It's better to use warm water for soaking.

Susan

This aquarium needs a reboot, a reconstruction (with the installation of at least a small sump or, more simply, a refugium, since there is such a cabinet design), where a protein skimmer and at least a small media reactor with coral gravel can be placed. What if I put coral gravel in the filter? What medicinal products do you recommend based on your own experience?

John828

In the pseudo-sea, I soak the whiteness in soda and then rinse it for a long time. But can I soak it in soda in the sea?

Patrick4439

look.

Veronica

You can put it down. Just not in the canister. I would actually remove them from sight altogether.

Russell8484

Off-topic, the "Aborigines" there are actually a resilient people. So, no...

Jacob7201

When I dealt with the sea, it was several years ago, I used a product from the company API - MELAFIX. It helped. What do you think about this medication? I still use it in freshwater. I like it. It quickly cures even simple ailments with a single dose (without a course) - fin rot, ichthyophthiriasis. In principle, these ailments used to be treated simply by raising the temperature and aeration. But with the numerous imports of fish from abroad, the diseases are no longer simple. However, they take longer to treat with other medications.

Denise

Where to? Where to put it?

Jason5071

The crumb is usually placed in the samp. "Asian" is not treated with an increase in temperature, only "domestic ichthyosis."

Anna9752

That's the point. That's why medications come into play. Although, just last year I experimented with hybrid parrots and temperature increase. They recovered.

Adam

The partition in the middle of the cabinet can be removed. To avoid bending, replace the top board with a 28 mm thick particle board. For added assurance, place a support in the middle of the cabinet near the front edge. This way, you will have space for a good sump and can easily store the canisters. You can either buy a ready-made sump (expensive) or order someone to assemble it. It is practically the same as an aquarium, just with partitions. You can even just buy an aquarium approximately 90x40x40 and glue in partitions made of window glass.

Vanessa6144

It's called that. For example, the bottom two photos are the samp. You can use internet search; there are some fancy constructions made by foreigners...

Nancy758

Is this all the samp? I guess I have a bourgeois one. There were at least four containers, two pumps, and something else.

Brandy1134

Here it is. Something very similar to what it was. Only with a non-functioning calc reactor (at that time my director did not bother to purchase a CO2 cylinder and did not understand that the calc reactor would not work).

Larry9400

The fact is that diseases in marine fish are better treated with medications designed for freshwater and marine fish. This is always specified in the accompanying instructions.

Daniel132

This preparation is specified to be used in both freshwater and marine aquariums. It is also stated that it is not harmful even to plants and invertebrates.

Jerry

So it can be applied.
