• Evolution of my sea

  • Dana6523

It all started at the end of last August, not from scratch, but with the purchase of an aquarium from one of the forum members... Since then, many things have changed and been added, and finally I decided to write about my sea)) The aquarium is 60*45*40 (L*W*H) without a sump, with a hanging IO Skimm 400 skimmer... an external Tetra 700 with biological filtration in the form of balls and carbon. Dealing with the flow is a bit tricky, I'm constantly experimenting, now I have a small turbine from AS. Lighting is 3 bars with T5 lamps, AM lamps with 2 lamps 10K, 15K and actinic, and an 8w blue light at night. Live rocks around 12 kg... Soft corals + a few LPS, zoanthids and mushrooms, anemones (how can wedo without them) Fish: yellow-tailed chrysiptera, fox, algae-eating dog, a pair of amphiprions, mandarin - dragon.

Kayla7655

beauty!

Rachel

Interesting jar. Moreover, without the samp... In the lower left corner, Eufilia is stressed. Please specify the water parameters. Are you adding M.E.? How do you do the water changes? For sand, yellow strombus, hermit crabs, ophiuroids, etc...

James1625

Good afternoon. Euphyllia is stressed because last night I was adjusting the corals, particularly a fragment of Lobophyllia that the dog knocked over, and Euphyllia hasn't recovered to normal by the time of the photo. Now it has a normal rich green color and is open. Water parameters are normal, with a 10% water change every two weeks, calcium added 2-3 times a week, and magnesium depending on the tests. There is one strombus digging in the sand, so hermit crabs are out of the question. The brittle star outgrew the aquarium, and I had to sell it, but I see that I will have to buy a new one, just a smaller one.

Melanie

a nice aquas, adding some currents wouldn't hurt...

Julia

I constantly experiment with the flow to ensure that everything is good and the actinia doesn't move around, as it has already settled on the pump twice, took a long time to recover, and the aquarium also suffered afterwards.

Chris

What kind of salt is IO and RS?

David7773

Instant Ocean corresponds to IO, and Reef Crystals - RC from AQUARIUM SYSTEMS, there was a typo.

Derek7322

I haven't updated the topic in a while. The main change is that the external tetra has started leaking, but I noticed it in time, even though it's in a spot that's hard to see. Therefore, I'm actively working on installing a sump by gluing a partition into one of the disassembled tanks. I found a place on the stand next to the sea, although it's not very low, with a difference of about 0.5 meters, and I'm considering an overflow. So, that's the news...

Diana8604

I immediately remembered the topic about external devices created by Anatoly, a time bomb that often goes off at night... I am against these external devices in the sea; they might work for freshwater but not for the sea. I have two that have failed in the seas, either due to wear or because of seawater.

Shelby3182

Yes, I read this topic and looked at it just like I did with the fresh 1200 that crashed two weeks earlier, but I had a small loss of about 5 liters, noticed it in time, added water in the morning, and in the evening when I was feeding, I saw a shortage. At first, I thought it was due to the magnesium, but then I realized and checked under the stand, and there it was dripping intensively... In general, everything is relatively successful. But since there’s nowhere to put the adsorbents, I started thinking about a sump, so now on the forum, there’s one aquarium WITHOUT A SUMP less, and S... more.

Melanie

I'm also considering setting up a sump, or rather I've decided and have almost finished the plumbing. There's also a hitch with the overflow. Right now, Vitalik is crafting a more compact "hang-on" version, and he'll post photos when he's done. Or are you planning to drill the tank? P.S. I have absorbents in my hang-on filter, and I sealed the pump attachment area with silicone just in case.

James4757

I'm waiting for the new overflow to see how it works, as the first option won't fit. I don't want to drill the aquarium for various reasons, starting with the fact that everything has been in the aquarium for a long time and it's about 2 years old, with almost 1.5 years under the sea. I plan to move to a larger volume, but it hasn't worked out yet. I have nowhere to hang a pendant light; there are ribs about 5 cm in front and back, and on the sides of the aquarium, there is a lamp. Without moving the aquarium closer to the wall, I can't hang the light. So, the pendant option is out.

Aaron6112

How do you plan to hang the overflow then, since it should be 10 cm wide? I think there's no point in making it smaller.

Melissa

I think I'll hang the overflow on the side, then the penny will turn into a sump and the aquarium will move towards the wall, which will allow me to hang the light.))

John3432

But since there is nowhere to place the adsorbents, I started thinking about a sump, so now there is one aquarium WITHOUT a sump less on the forum, and S... more. If it comes to that, it's somehow difficult to glue a sump because of the adsorbents... For general convenience - YES, but otherwise, you can fit a small mechanical filter or even better, a hang-on filter... This is just a side note.

Laura3673

A nice aquarium. I'm still hesitant to start my euphyllia - I had a sad experience when it died after 3 days.

Tasha

I just can't seem to start the expansion; something is holding me back. The same Samp that I made and planned to turn into a larger system remains the same. So it's just a matter of time... Yes, it's sad... But I have a similar situation with SPS. I've tried it twice, and no more than 1-2 survive; they start to grow and then die off. The first time I blame the lamps and the fact that the anemone got into the pump. The second time, my dog broke a couple of things... Overall, in my opinion, you can't have SPS with that amount of soft corals, mainly Lobophyllia. I've already learned that. Until I increase the volume, I won't risk more with hard corals. Even though I don't really like them much; just 1-2 species and that's it... but SOFT-LPS REEF, THAT'S A YES!!!!

Gregory9432

A week has passed since the sump was set up. There have been no issues with the overflow. The overflow is made from a 3/4 inch pipe, with an Atman AT105 pump, splitting the flow: part goes to the aquarium and part goes through a UV lamp that I haven't finished yet due to a lack of all the necessary parts. The sump is divided into three sections: a skimmer, an algae section, and a return section (the amount of water in the return section is just enough to prevent the aquarium from overflowing and the pump from overheating). Among the unfinished tasks is the lighting in the sump, but I think I will resolve this in the coming days.

Larry9400

And now just some photos of the creatures that have added a bit over this time and not only)) The quality of the photos is not great..(( And you can't catch them all in the frame)) There is also an apogon, but it only swims around the aquarium when you feed or when the anemone is open)) It's practically impossible to catch the wrasse in one spot, as it constantly scurries around the aquarium nibbling on things, including the planaria, the number of which has significantly decreased..

Jonathon8514

Hi! What kind of overflow did you create? It's not clear. Is it just like a coil from a pipe?

Joshua3019

Is the yellow damsel behaving well? And where has the red montipora gone?

Wendy8540

ichthyologist - what kind of fish is the yellow one with a frosty stripe in the middle photo? If possible, please provide the name. Thank you.

Joseph8842

I'm looking at the sea. How much does a jar like yours with the contents (equipment, fish, corals...) cost? How much money is spent on maintenance per month? Thanks.

Danielle8118

Thank you very much. I also wrote to you in private. Please respond.

Heather

If I count everything right away, I'm even afraid to think, and most sailors think there will be a couple of thousand dead presidents somewhere. I buy everything I need once every few months, and that's it. For maintenance without buying new livestock, it might be around $30-40, maybe not... I haven't counted yet.

Curtis9143

for now, I'll observe the beauty in the picture_x___)))

Jessica5016

If you really want to, start small but with a reserve... and gradually you'll scare yourselves)))

Danielle8118

I don't understand... so, what do you mean no?

Jeffrey2277

Tomorrow I will disband it like this. And I will transplant everyone into the new one... I will just test the system with tap water and then go for it. Distillate to be collected, 25 kg of sand is available, 11 kg of dry reef rocks from Central Asia... And a new stage in the evolution of my reef has been reached... "I will level the unevenness and smooth out the curves." ))

Carrie1606

Phew... I was starting to think... Well, good luck with the formation of the new Reef... And the jar, it's new, what volume?

Alan273

D*Sh*V and the corner is beveled = 90*50*60*13 cm volume about 250-260 l + sump 60 ("old"), drain not Durso 20 as a backup for confidence emergency 20, supply 1/2 pipe. Thank you.

Anthony

I was just about to say it's beautiful, and here you have an aquarium ready for demolition. Doesn't it seem to me that the drain pipe is a bit small?

Debra8438

Why not say it? And for demolition for even greater beauty...

Chris

So the first 24 hours of sailing are normal))... I present to your judgment a small report:

Kellie

Congratulations on the launch!!!! Wishing you a smooth journey))))

Raven7170

Is there any way to fit the wave box closer to the shaft or right next to it?

Wendy

It is possible, but then the drain will be blocked on one side, and the flow will blow away the corals at the start. I have already tried both closely and further away. The most optimal flow is as it is now.

Jacqueline6670

And on the opposite side?

Ross

The ribs are in the way. I was thinking of either a pump or a wave box on this side, and the rib was not planned.

Amber1273

It's a pity. As for me, it will cover the corals. The stones are well placed, panoramic. And immediately covered them. (no offense)

Randall7906

I know what it's like to feel offended. But I have a couple of ideas on how to play with the wavebox. I'll be thinking and experimenting for now.

Destiny

Be sure to consider the airflow of the stones between the rear window, as there will be a collection of detritus and all sorts of debris. Have a good swim.

George5104

Congratulations on the move! A larger space is always exciting; we will be able to see more beauty, although I really liked the last photos of the old aquarium. I agree with Sasha about the rocks. In our previous aquarium, we had rocks against the wall, although not as close as yours, but when we dismantled the tank after a year and a half, there was so much... it was overwhelming. I wouldn't make it so vertical; the upper corals will grow and shade the lower levels, and there is a lot of free sand... But that's just my opinion. Wishing you a successful restart!

Angel628

I'm thinking about the water flow... I currently have an anemone in there, so I'm afraid to install the pump for now. I will gradually add rocks; there are only 12 pounds of live rock and 12 pounds of dry reef rock, and the quantity is small, plus the decoration is not finished yet. Thank you, we will do our best.

Lindsay

This is how she shares. Best regards, .

Stephanie3084

Good afternoon everyone, the reef is already over 13 months old.. And a few photos for the story.. There are also newcomers: several SPS, Magnifica (it's clear from the clowns that our locals are sharing 2 anemones between them), a Fromia starfish (sitting behind the reef), and snails...
