Karen

Max, aqua is super, I really like it. But I think over time you'll still get a larger volume. For example, it's a pity that the creatures have grown and don't fit.

Melanie

Sanya, I would have already launched a larger volume. There are just some nuances. Let the resan sit for about six months, and then we'll see.

Todd8452

Yes, the "volume" is already more fun... Regarding the light: check Jeff's post (forum) - he describes it in great detail. But I think it can be simpler... not to make global changes, but just to wire the buttons... that is, to connect the wires to the timers from the switches! The moon (LEDs) can stay on constantly. You need to seal all the outlets and leave only the top drain. The fight with J.K. (live rocks) in the drain column. And... congratulations!!!!!!!!))))))))

Christopher1252

Great. It's not often that such an "intimate" process comes to light. More often, you learn about it from the remnants of the skin.

Robert800

So Jeff didn't set up different outlets. He added 1 lamp and was messing around with diodes/fans... If I missed something, please point it out to me. Regarding live rocks, there won't be broken live rocks, but there will be full live rocks sized to fit the sump. Honestly, I got scared when I saw the skin. I thought it was the end for the shrimp...

Natasha7622

I think I noticed two wires on the plug.

Jonathan6173

Regarding the light, I sometimes think about removing the cover and hanging one 150W and a couple of T5s with it ) although that's a different story )))

Maria

Don't worry, you won't kill these shrimp with an oar. I took off the lid on my Resan and went to the body shop. They made two forks. One for the cooler + actinic + diodes. The second one is just for white light. Everything is on timers. The actinic light lasts longer, so the coolers work with it. I'm not bothering with night lighting.

Angel2396

!!! TV studio !!!!!!!! thank you !!!))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Angela

Live for a century - learn for a century.

Susan

Max is doing great, you're starting well...

Darlene4238

A refrigerator is needed if installing a metal halide lamp. I don't have any livestock that requires it yet. I won't even modify the factory lighting for now. If I get very light-loving species, I'll change it, but for now, I don't see the point. Thank you!

Melissa1838

Today the blue mushrooms have opened up. Overall, all the creatures are feeling great! This is pleasing. This morning, the sand looked like this. I didn't expect anything else... We'll wait until it passes... This is how the sump currently looks. 1. All compartments (except for the comb) are closed. There is a small piece of sponge. I clean it every 3-4 days. 2. Charcoal, heater, oxygen enrichment pump (no skimmer yet) 3. Algae scrubber 4. Pumps. The upper original one is 550L, the lower one is 350L. This is how it will look soon: 1. Large pieces of live rock. 2. Algae scrubber 3. Skimmer 4. Pumps I bought Chemi-Pure Elite. I haven't put it in yet.

Brenda

Everything is arranged like this for me right now. J.K. (live rocks) algae scrubber skimmer return. The only little problem is the third compartment... the water level is not constant here... fluctuations depend on the setting of the adjustable drain flap height and the amount of evaporated water... keep an eye on this.

Kendra2262

We need to install an auto refill, so much water is evaporating (((

John3335

And everyone was shouting that a refrigerator is needed. I lose 100 grams of water per day. The water temperature is always 26 degrees and higher; it won't be lower without a cooling system. I have a climate control system at home, and the temperature inside is the same in winter and summer. Due to the 100 grams per day, I won't install an automatic refill, but that's without a foam generator for now— we'll see...

Lisa

I started to have evaporation even with the feeding lid closed. I open it, and the temperature is more or less stable at 26-27, sometimes 28. Auto top-off is definitely convenient, but is it worth it in our case? The fridge - yes! I know it's better to top off not with pure osmosis, but with added calcium. Correct me if I'm wrong. But what proportions should we use for our volume?

Stacey4437

Regarding the MG... I think that under this light, compared to our compacts, any living organisms will do better. And the color scheme will be appropriate. We can try to mess around with 50/50 lamps, but as far as I know, they need to be brought from the States. Or Arcadia lamps (they seem to shine better), but I don't know where to get them.

Antonio

MG will definitely be better! I’m not arguing with that... But I’m saying - I need a fridge. I don’t feel like buying a fridge. Especially since there’s no overheating. With MG, it will be 100%. I just don’t want to throw a bunch of money into this resan. It’s a temporary measure until I save up for a 300L. Adding calcium is necessary if the reef is LPS or SPS, but for soft corals, the calcium we add with water changes will be enough.

Rodney

I don't even know whether to be happy or not.

April3499

Rejoice and only rejoice. This is normal behavior. Ocellares, for example, can happily burrow in the sarcophagid, even though their anemone is nearby and they occasionally swim into it...

David953

Everything is fine. You saw that I have euphoria and this is my home.

Devon107

This is how everything looks right now. I took the photo in the morning. The mushrooms were still half closed. All tests are OK. Hetamorph is growing very well in the sump. The sand is spilling quite a bit. Yesterday, the briarium closed and doesn't want to open. I think it's due to the coating. We'll wait... I'm also thinking that my aquarium is located not far from the window, and in the morning, a little bit of sunlight hits the tank. Approximately from 6 to 7 in the morning. Could this be why the sand is turning brown?

Christopher

This is not a freshwater fish that needs to be hidden from light; in the sea, the more light, the better, and if the sun is shining in, that's even better. The bloom is most likely from the move; it's practically a reset.

Jonathan6173

Yes... Most likely because of the move. Only Carolina was growing in the old jar. A little algae did pop up after all... Today I took a syringe and blew off the film from the briarium. I think it will open up in a few days, if it doesn't get covered again.

Debra8438

Don't worry about the briarium coral of immense life potential—it will soon unfold...

Elizabeth

He already bloomed in 2 hours. Today I cut Ksyusha. I mean, Ksenia stuck to a little stone, and I cut off the sprout. Soon there will be something to exchange or trade with someone.

Christopher1252

It's great that Briareus reacted from a distance - a beautiful bastard. I want to provide Ksyusha, Max, with a gentle, laminar flow; she loves it, and even better when she "floats" in the current, she looks even more beautiful then...

Joseph6461

Ksyusha is at the weakest current in the aquarium; she feels unwell in the strong one.

Dana4701

No, no, it can't be strong; it just squeezes its tentacles—laminar, preferably with weak turbulence...

Kayla7655

Yes-yes! That's how I set it up.

William5838

I have a Ksyukha in a strong current, it breeds very well.

Stephen5857

I don't turn off the moon, the clowns sleep well... I think if Clark wants to, he will fall asleep with the moon too...

Laurie3842

I have clowns who are used to falling asleep under the moon. By the way, a clown in a sarcophagus is constantly sitting here )))) As for turning off the lights and being jumpy, they'll get used to it soon; for some reason, it's a jumpy fish. And by the way, buy yourself a wide brush for artists and sweep it away. It's not the best option, but it helps.

Charles5941

The brush is already there. There's almost no diatom left. Thank you! So you got caught. Do you also manually turn the lights on and off in the resans?

Leslie

Damn, my boxer shrimp has started hunting the clownfish. The shrimp is relatively small. The clownfish is about 6-7 cm. Today I caught the clownfish by the tail and the gill... The clown barely put up a fight... I seem to be feeding them well. I will try to feed the shrimp separately.

Anne

Well, what a scoundrel, huh? If he's not careful, he might injure the fish and will continue hunting in the same way, even if you pile food on him...

Zachary

It seems like there is no fighting for now. We'll see. If it starts to rebel, it will go to another aquarium. I will send photos of the aquarium soon. There are some changes.

Zoe7451

waiting for the photos

Martha

Please tell me what this is? It was on J.K. (live stones). It didn't bloom for almost six months, but about 3-4 weeks ago it started to develop.

Nicholas2252

Max, is this not a lobophyton by any chance? It's a bit hard to see, though.

Tasha

He is the one.

Rebecca

This is most likely Heliopora (Blue coral), especially if the stone is Indonesian. It's very easy to check - just touch it with your hand (if the surface is hard, then it's definitely it). It usually opens 2-3 hours before the lights go out. Best regards, .

Karen1649

Thank you. This is Heliopora.

Steven757

WOW! I got some cool mushrooms... Today I went out and saw that out of 10 mushrooms, only one is left!!! DAMN!!! Who could it be? A crab? I don't want to sit by the aquarium all night, but I think I have to.

Joseph9057

What kind of pen you plan to use in the Resan 500?

Stefanie9771

If more precisely - tomorrow. I already spoke with Dima. Don't you want a bicolor? There is one, I would say it is VERY overripe.

Stephanie9175

Reef Octopus NS-80 - There are no hopes for a skimmer the color of brewed tea, but in any case, something will come out.

Chad9037

Okay. I'll wait for Dima's call then.

Patricia

I think it's not bad for a little one. This is overnight. My stopper on the flask keeps coming off... The one for diverting to another container. I can't secure it.

David2398

Yes, actually, it's not a bad pen. The only drawback of all these nano devices is the small cup size. It's worth checking a couple of times a day. Everything else depends on the population size.

Joshua9847

Max, throw away the stock one and pick a heat shrink that's 5-6 cm longer. It won't slip off. P.S. I forgot to warn you.

Laura9093

Igor, thank you for the advice! I took a different path. I just added an extra cup and directed the tube there, and the Pennek is really going strong! I didn't expect that from it. I went for it... Today I bought a fox. I didn't have the nerves to pull out the higher macroalgae with mushrooms. I decided to get a mower. I was really worried that the fish would grow big, and I really didn't want to torture the animal in my small jar... But then a voice in my head said, "Hey!!! Maxim, buy a fox, you’re planning for 300 liters anyway." So yes, by the time it outgrows the aquarium, I will already be setting up the 300 liters. Thank you all for the advice.

Nicholas2252

Hi! Did you get the algae-eating dog? I ordered one for myself, but someone took them all on the first day, and I didn't get one. At least the clowns are supposed to arrive on Friday, so that's good.

Brenda

Hello! I got a bicolor dog, but due to my great love for my Ksenia, she went to live with Vadim, and from him to my little Calasteria (I apologize if I named it incorrectly) and little Riccardia. I filmed a video of the aquarium. So that's how things stand today... I really want to add live rocks, but I don't have the opportunity yet.

Michelle1662

I read about your bicolor, but you were also planning to get a Salarias fasciatus. Do you still have your little fox? It's cute.

Joe

I was going to take the fox.

Rachael

Good riff. And in terms of batriocladia, it's already clear who the master of the forest is...

Laura4892

Max, it's better to have Chevryakov in Samp, the boxer will manage. Have you read Shimeka?

Joseph8592

Max, is the temperature 28.5 before or after the savings? Are there any photos of the process of the redo or the fact of the redo?

Brandon4517

Max, what is that fox? You have three fish and a shrimp. I wanted one like that, but I don't know how they will get along. I also want a Helmon, hopefully I'll get one in about three weeks (the aiptasia is driving me crazy), a blue tang, and a dog, but she's not involved. The main thing is that the first three get along. So you have Ksenia there until morning; you could feed your bicolor.

Cheyenne2747

The energy-saving bulb doesn't heat up at all. But the original compact bulbs get so hot that the cover starts to smell like plastic. At first, I was scared it was the wiring. I didn't take photos. It's all very simple. I shifted the original lamps by 0.8-1 cm to the sides. For this, I drilled a hole for a screw. I routed the wiring under the energy-saving bulb. I assembled everything and installed the bulb. It's like two fingers... I'll take a photo today. Also, I found a super-mega thing. Ultra-powerful diodes that shine at 6400K, and they don't heat up at all (according to the seller, and I touched the bulbs myself - they're not even warm). The output is 200 watts. It's all a rectangle of 15 by 10 cm. 6400K is a bit low, but the idea is good.

Kevin3114

Fox Lo. She is peaceful by herself. How they will get along - I have no idea. You have 140 liters there... A bit small for 3 very large fish. I got the fox with the intention of moving soon.

Kathryn514

So without a surgeon, he is the most expensive. Look at the fan, he uses some kind of diode, I don't know the temperature in Kelvin, but it's round, 5-6 cm in diameter, like a tablet, with 70 in the center, in a base like a raster.

Vanessa6144

Don't poke around yet - take a photo. It's interesting. Nooo... Tell me about the methods! And in detail!!!!

Kevin262

I caught the biggest one simply with a net; it crawled out by itself, and the others... I took a stone about 3-5 cm in size. I drilled holes in it the size of a five-kopeck coin, about 1.5 cm deep. I placed a piece of squid inside and set it near the habitat. For 2-3-4 days, the stone stayed in one place, and I put food in the hole every day. Then, when I was sure it was eating, I just took the stone out along with it. It was sitting peacefully in the hole. It seems simple, but it's not. It's not always easy to place the stone trap successfully in the habitat, and the brittle stars make the task even more complicated. But still, the idea works.

James8887

The morning sun does its job. You close the curtain and scratch the sand - the sand is white, but as soon as you remove the curtain after 2 weeks, all the sand turns pink.

David

Max, which mushrooms are we talking about? In which post can they be seen? I'm also burning with desire for those stars, signals have already been sent before yours... By the way, the pink sand is cyan...

Richard2180

Pink sand - definitely cyan, asters were most likely finishing off disco anemones that had died for some reason.

Jennifer9100

Mushrooms... I didn't post any photos. Here is a photo. There was a colony almost covering the entire rock, pink sand is not cyanobacteria. It's just poorly visible in the photo. The cyanobacteria is jelly-like. And on the sand, there are clearly calcium algae like Carolina. I thought the same at first, then I tried tasting it, touched it... And most importantly, I compared under a microscope the cyanobacteria and what I have on the sand. So, what I have on the sand is identical to the Carolina that I scraped off the pump. Here it might be clearer. And here is the cyanobacteria from the neighboring aquarium.

Christine

Max, why I asked for a photo - check on Mesophyllum. Is it like this?

Andrew4194

Listen, Yarik, you sometimes surprise me. I've been searching the internet for 2 months and couldn't find it, and then you just come up with Mesophyllum. This Mesophyllum also grows on rocks. It's a bit darker than Carolina, but in terms of structure, it's almost 1 to 1. By the way, it's very hard to peel off glass! Only with a blade.

Lee425

Either I expressed myself incorrectly, or you misunderstood me... If you mix sand and prevent morning sunlight from hitting it, it will remain white. The pink color does not go away overnight or even over months. These are calcium formations. They can only be scraped off the pebble with a needle. They cannot be cleaned with a brush or even a toothbrush. Their growth is only promoted by sunlight. Lamps do not provide that effect. By the way, tomorrow I will take Yarik for an examination. He will confirm or refute my words. Yarik, are you okay with that?

Ryan

If after the Yarikov examination it turns out that there is a Carolina growth on each grain of sand... Or simply put, take a certain amount of pink sand, pour it into an aquarium with water, cover it with a lid, and after mixing it well for about 2 minutes, will it remain pink while the water will be perfectly clear?

Laura3615

That's exactly how I remember it, from how it usually grows on the rocks. I really like it. Max, I'm just an enthusiast,... not an expert. But I would gladly meet up and chat.

Erin

I tried with the aquarium... The water turned a little pink. The sand, let's say, about 60 percent of the grains didn't change color, while about 40 percent did turn white...

Cheryl

The rest 60 - I really doubt it. Leave this aquarium until tomorrow morning... Morning, they say, is wiser than evening...

Michael3221

Not great What’s wrong? Phosphates and nitrates are at zero. The algae eater is working well. I throw out two handfuls of algae every week. The foam is being produced by the foam maker... Water changes... 10 liters every week. That’s 40% of the water in a month. And the aquarium has been running for a while now...

Andrea6761

Off-topic Why... why... Because you don't drink beer with your party comrades...!!! Max, is the turbulence good in these places?

Kimberly4253

The turbulence is good. I currently have the following flow: Coral Nano 900L Hydra 980L And Chinese 350L As soon as I open the curtain, in 2-3 days the sand starts to turn pink. I close the curtain, and in a month the sand becomes white. Most likely, it's an excess of light. Off-topic: Shall we have a beer tomorrow?

Yolanda

Maybe it's not cyan... If it's solid, then... - or maybe it's both?

Amber9312

There were 2 strombus... One committed suicide. Not enough Voroshitely... I will think of something. In general, I need to stop constantly rearranging things in the aquarium. I have a lot of work and am rarely at home, so everything feels fine. But at home... my hands want to rearrange everything. Feed a little more than necessary... and so on. Then all sorts of filaments and cyanobacteria appear. Tomorrow I will stock up on Epoxy. I will glue all the frags and keep my hands off the tank! As always, I am very grateful for the answers. And sorry for picking at your brain a bit with the cyanobacteria. But I will still show Yarick the sand tomorrow.

Kathryn514

Yes, I'm familiar with it... And I love it... I love it deeply.

Crystal4879

Sometimes it has fatal consequences... "To fiddle with it"... And at the same time, something pulls you like a magnet to adjust, rearrange, or clean the front glass. And what to do with the planaria if after the lemivazol it almost took out the Favia, and it remained just as it was... So try not to get involved...

Joseph8842

The strombus got stuck between the rocks and couldn't get out. Its body was eaten by brittle stars. When the spectrum or duration of daylight changes, algal blooms may occur. It will pass.

Cynthia6578

Oops.. I thought it was from hunger.... I also pulled it out from under the support stone.... and the brittle star was also rummaging around there for a long time...

Danny

Offtopic, yes, it's been a month already, there wasn't even anything like this after the restart. No need to go through it, I've already ordered Blenny and Helmon (they still haven't arrived) - let them feast, one on the thread, the other on the IPTAZ.

Gary6376

We looked at the sand yesterday. A clear fresh smell of the sea. It feels like there are two types of sand - white and dark pink. And it's hard! I can't clearly say what kind of algae it is, as there was only a fine fraction in the jar. But it's definitely not cyanobacteria. The algae is calcium-based.

David4968

I didn't write that "In the morning, the sand is white, in the evening - red." The sand is white. I open the curtain for a month - the top layer of sand starts to turn red. I close the curtain for a month - the strombus digs, and the hermits poke around, mixing the top layer with the lower white layer, making it practically white. I wrote the deadlines conditionally. And honestly, I don't care anymore whether it's cyan or not. If it is cyan, it will pass over time. If not, that's fine too. Today I rearranged the light and put the corals in their places. I'll post the photos in a few days.

Emily3506

Off-topic. We watched the sand yesterday, and it was nice.

Melissa

Correct. A creative approach is needed for all questions in marine aquaristics. But the main thing is to get home on time and without complications afterwards.

Michael

We are waiting...

Richard2180

I sympathize. The power was also out in my place yesterday for 5 hours - the UPS failed. To be on the safe side, I also keep a battery-powered compressor - at least some water movement + oxygen.

Thomas5021

If the bottom has peeled a little and doesn't peel further, leave it as is; it will grow over. If peeling continues, then break it off. It should be bitten off at the living tissue, buy in Lugol's solution and reapply.

Christopher8654

Just yesterday there was a whole area. During the night, it covered a section of 1 cm. I'll see what happens next. If it continues to cover, I'll do it the way you suggest! Thank you!

Randy

It's bad... We can take the akrapor for temporary care. (free of charge)

Christina9947

Thank you very much! If it flies even 1mm further, I will definitely ask for help!

Heather9815

Max, if the acry is still at home, give it more flow. And what is the temperature in the aquarium now? The discus are a bit stressed, but they feel fine; place them on a solid substrate and cover them with a transparent cup. After you see that they have attached, you can remove it. I forgot to add, the skimmer is not producing anything, just wait a bit, the aquarium will return to normal and it will work as it used to. Mine hasn't produced foam for the fourth day now; this can happen sometimes without any visible reason, and then everything goes back to normal.

Timothy

The aquarium is consistently at 28. But I just turned on the algae eater during the day, and it rose to 28.4. I just want the algae eater to take care of the mess. The ACRA is being well ventilated! The discs I managed to catch are secured. And two mushrooms about 7 centimeters in diameter got away. Regarding the foam, we are waiting. Thank you!

Joshua9340

The foam maker should be working!!! Especially after the power outage, it should be producing foam much more vigorously! Apparently, because the hands were put into the aquarium, the foam is not rising... It's better to just wait now... and avoid high temperatures.

Ryan1989

I won't be able to lower it below 28, but I understand that I'm not the only one having temperature issues right now. I'll be ordering air conditioners for the house in the coming days.

Ryan2281

Could you tell me what this plant is called, the brown one you have (referring to the edges of the stone like the leaves of an autumn maple)? It grows very vigorously for me, filling any space where I put it, and it also collects all sorts of debris, so I have to shake it off... It came from you and Ksyusha, and it almost overwhelmed her with its growth...

Eric8832

This plant has really stressed me out! I was just weeding it, and now there's very little left. The main thing is not to let it spread too much. Its growth is quite easy to control. P.S. I don't remember what kind of algae it is, and I don't know the exact name.

Noah1632

So... Water parameters: Temp. 28 PH- 8 KH- 7-8 Phosphates- not determined Ammonium -0 Calcium - 460 It seems all the little creatures have recovered! Acropora is coming back to life! It has stopped bleaching and started to gain color. Fingers crossed! I’m shocked by the algae eater!!! Previously, my algae eater was only active at night because I was afraid of overheating the tank. For the last 3 days, it has been working around the clock. What can I say - the hair algae that covered all the S.R.C. (dry reef rocks) and that I couldn’t even pull out with tweezers is visibly disappearing!!! P.S. I’m going to take pictures of the tank. I’ll post the photos today.

Karen

This is exactly the point; I have always supported the presence of algae because when macrophytes start to thrive in the aquarium, their abundant growth removes nitrates and phosphates from the reef, and they negatively impact microphytes by simply overpowering and stifling them, not allowing them a chance to survive. My reef always has more than 11 species of algae, and I have no headache about what to add to my aquarium to combat lower organisms, nitrates, phosphates, etc. The term "filamentous algae" is unknown to my reef and will never be known; the evidence for this is in the photos of my reef in my personal albums over the past two years.

Emily3144

Doesn't the fox eat the thread? I only have a couple of nasty bushes left, but there's still a dog... maybe take one for thread control, I have a working one that doesn't eat anything except for overgrowth... I also had a pink one like that, I thought it was cyan... then it disappeared... is there really something useful of the same kind?

Brandy

I won't get a dog! I already had one. I don't want another. The fox is eating. I just removed the botryocladia from it a few days ago. It will quickly start to grow back. Plus, the algae eater is going crazy 24 hours a day, and the thread algae is disappearing before my eyes. Cyanobacteria... I don't know. Could there be any other pink algae on the sand? Maybe someone can advise? At the beginning of the month, I will be buying SPS (TTT). I will be talking to experienced aquarists; they will tell me if it's cyanobacteria or not. From the photo, Plataks identified it as cyanobacteria. I have no doubt about their competence, but a photo is just a photo. In person, I need someone with experience to take a look.

Thomas1044

HA! Akrapora has come to her senses. She has turned almost green from brown and has stopped shedding!!! Thank you all for your help.

Darlene4238

Can you provide more details? Do they have Arcadia now?

Carrie1606

Igor, I ordered it. I received it in a week. I installed it today. 320 pieces.

Kimberly3727

From the opera "If you want it to be better, it turns out the same as always." I bought two types of seriatopora. One of them is pink... Mine is barely pink. I thought maybe it's not getting enough actinic light... I started rearranging the lamps... In short, I don't have the arcadia lamp anymore. It just broke in my hands. I'm in shock.

Stephen5841

Wow, I sympathize. During what process did it burst (were you inserting/extracting)? And in which exact place?

Christopher7213

At the very end of the lamp, I inserted it. The Chinese one fit like a glove, while the Arcadia required a lot of adjustment. I mean in the socket. I wrote to the store where I bought the lamp - they said they wouldn't be able to get it anymore.

Mariah

and Plataks were right! That cyano is just very incomprehensible... It really penetrates the structure of the sand. But a solution has been found. I installed blinds on the windows. Sunlight no longer hits the aquarium. The cyano is on the decline.

Gabrielle5053

I suggest we take another look. Maybe you didn't finish watching.

Sheila1322

Off-topic I'm, as always, in favor.

Wanda666

Good, now it's very good! It looks nice, and the tube doesn't take all the attention anymore! I told you - TM THEME! I'll be on the air soon - I'll get you a dose. Max, remind me when I stop by - I need to do macro photography of your corals. P.S. We need to start training the little one - give her a pipette with food and let her help out, keep an eye on the aquarium!

Daniel8015

Max, off-topic, there are kids everywhere, you have to keep up everywhere, you work to exhaustion, and it's like that your whole life. Max, off-topic, so she was standing behind with a bat? Then you don't need to show yours for now, let everything slide. Well done, Maxim.

Patrick4439

It opens at 5:00 PM and stays in this state until 10:00 PM. And this is how it looks right after the lights are turned off.

Natasha

And where can you buy such a wonder? I also want to add some yellow.

Jennifer5371

From a

Jessica5016

Max, the green (V-shaped, in the center) - is it a hidnopore?

Andrew9581

Yes. Yarik, she looks completely different in person. I'm not a photography expert... You'll see...

Melissa3200

Who advised you to perform such a procedure every 2 days? What is its essence? And what is this sponge, where is it located, and what function does it serve? Please respond.

Phyllis

a black porous sponge... Something like that, but not big... It is located in the back compartment, roughly speaking, in the drainage shaft. It serves as a mechanical filter. I clean it three times a week because after feeding the sun coral, most of the leftover food remains on this sponge. Right after feeding, I rinse it under water at about 50 degrees. What am I doing wrong?

Stephen

I remember exactly that I read it, but I can't recall where... They said that the sponge should be rinsed once a week under hot water to prevent it from leaching nitrates and phosphates. The sponge acts as a mechanical filter and removes leftover food and detritus. Detritus is fine, but in moderation, and without mechanical filtration, it accumulates in the aquarium... After 2-3 weeks, if the sponge is not rinsed well, it starts to smell. Okay, I'll try rinsing it with aquarium water and do it about three times a month. P.S. If the tube is well-fed, it doesn't produce much waste, but if it needs to be fattened up, it requires quite a bit of food.

but neither phosphates nor nitrates, nor beneficial microorganisms are involved here. Boiling water won't kill the chemistry, and let the microorganisms "fly" in the water supply. "Stole - drank - to prison" "Washed - dried - put back in the drain" Why seawater for washing the sponge? You guys have gone overboard...

Melinda

I will write how I do it. Once a quarter, I clean the detritus with a siphon in the refugium, and even then there is little of it, so I can take longer with the cleaning; it doesn't harm anything. There are no sponges in the chambers, cassettes, or transfers, and there can't be any. Sometimes I do put a sponge under the turbulent pump for a certain period, but that's when I'm rearranging or remodeling the interior to clear the cloudiness faster. I don't deal with sponges anymore, and as for the maintenance—think about it yourself—3 or 4 times the water passes through, how much do we lose, huh, guys? And then there are questions, like we seem to be doing everything scientifically, but there's either hair algae or cyanobacteria, it's frustrating...

Wendy2244

Well, I also have a coarse-pored sponge in the first compartment of the sump. I don't worry much about it, I rinse it under the tap whenever I feel like it (which is rarely, about once every couple of months). I haven't noticed any problems. I haven't thought about cyanobacteria in this aquarium for a long time, nor about filamentous algae. Even if I bring in something with a new rock (which has happened more than once), there are no traces left after a couple of days. Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

Robin

The sponge is washed in hot water so that it serves solely as a mechanical filter, without biological filtration. This recommendation is quite common, but it is difficult to judge how accurate it is.

Wendy2244

But what are we losing? Small particles will pass through the sponge, while larger ones and detritus will settle on the sponge. That's what mechanical filtration is for! I have enough detritus in my algae tank...

Brooke

I wouldn't wash so often either - only because of tuberculosis.

Zachary

Most of all, because of the increase in light.

Christopher1774

What if we try to cut a piece of glass to size and place it at an angle so that the water flows down it silently? A piece of plastic could work too. It just takes some effort—who knows, maybe something will eventually come of it... P.S. Snail class!

Kevin

Can you say respect? Max, no offense - can I take a photo of your aquarium, if possible? Because in person it looks amazing, but when you take photos...

Erin

I take terrible photos, that's a fact. Unlike some, I didn't attend a young photographer's club during the USSR; I was still walking under the table back then. Anyway, take photos and post them, I'm all for it.

Try this 150W 15K Purple Blue HQI bulb - I liked the spectrum, and not just me. And why is the reflector so badly dented? Mine turned out very neat. I removed the sockets from the old holder and attached the holder for the 150W MH through the reflector. And the reflector didn't get dented at all.

Susan

The reflector will go in the trash. A new one is already being made - a decent one. I actually had a little problem with the reflector - those with small children will understand how it can be. Regarding the lamp - I've already heard from many that Chinese ones don't last long! They say it lasts about 2-3 months and then the spectrum is not the same... What is your opinion? Or it depends on luck... Of course, for 20 bucks, even if it burns out in 5-6 months, you might not worry too much.

Steven

I got this lamp for testing at the beginning of spring. I liked it. I bought 2 more and installed them. The spectrum hasn't changed much in six months. I bought one at the beginning of summer for a friend, and it’s still working for him; he has no complaints. However, the Reflux 12K started to yellow after six months. I'm not promoting Chinese products in any way, but I liked these for their price-to-quality ratio. P.S. I used 250W MH lamps.

Michelle5859

Thank you! I'll buy one for myself too...

David3217

, beautiful))) I haven't commented on this topic. Let's fix that.

Kyle

I told you to switch to MH, but you didn't - yes - no... It would be great to have a proper spotlight for MH bulbs there, it would be perfect! It wouldn't light up the room, just the aquarium. So, what kind of lamp is that, how many Kelvin? There's too much blue... I just tried my Chinese 15 and 20k ones. They seem to be brighter, somehow. Yeah, the 4th photo looks good. The aquarium is awesome!

If anyone has links on how to catch fish from an aquarium without dismantling the live rock, I would be very grateful!!!

Amber1273

Off-topic Oh, Max, there's such a complicated matter here that probably not a single weather link will help. What I practice is using the opportunity to catch sleeping fish at night when they obviously can't see anything. Sometimes, for the really quick and greedy ones, I use a hook that they swallow. For the curious lovers who like to stick their noses where they shouldn't, I use an aquarium with food placed on its side. And if I need to catch particularly cunning ones, I have to disturb part of the reef at night, even having a fishing wall on hand. (Acanthurus coeruleus).

Kendra2262

Offtopic What do you measure the spectrum with? Or is it just by eye?

Tanya

For those interested in how Tubastrea reproduces! Off-topic This is the kind of eggs Tubastrea spits out. Most of the time, they just float away into the sump and then into the mechanical filter. But if you catch them and place them in a separate tank where they won't be blown away by the current and add a piece of live rock, they will double in size in a week and attach to the rock.

Charles894

Of course, by eye, this is the most versatile tool. I don't want to advertise it, as whether you like it or not is strictly individual.

Joseph1346

Max. lamp SunSun HLD-B 70 has not been studied, how is it?

Collin

I studied... In person, it looks very big. The price is high for such a lamp... The lamp is from China, the ballast is from China. The lamp from eBay is 20 bucks, the ballast + igniter + capacitor here costs from 250 to 500. The spotlight ranges from 50 to 250. You can pay more for aesthetics... But it doesn't smell like that there...

Breanna9982

The last photoshoot of my resan A new topic will be created soon... Test drive

Melissa2062

Oh, so this is serious already, and the samps cost 250? Are you going to start disassembling the resan already or when the "third" is ready? Are you going to install MG? If it's one, the brace in the center will interfere, so it will need to be two.

Cheryl

Sanya, almost 80x55x50 and the sump 70x40x35. There will be 1MG and about 4 tubes. The brace won't interfere much, but it will be a bit in the way. I'll create a topic in a few days.

Holly

Are you going to shift the MG? If it's in the center, they say it will interfere (and possibly heat up too, but I'm not sure about that). I thought about it myself, but many said it's better to have two of lower power, and I don't want two 70s. If there's one MG, I would remove it from the center and place two a bit closer to the edges (one-third each - like in Sanya's thread). While the aquarium is empty, I think it won't be difficult to do.

Jeffery7866

The MG will be in the center. I checked on the resin - there is no shadow and it heats up very weakly. It's not a problem. Many MGs end up on the ties. If I do make 2MG, then it will be 2 at 150, but I'm almost sure that I will make 1MG at 250 and 4 tubes.
