At least provide a description of your systems regarding equipment and devices so that there is something to discuss... At this stage, we can only talk about the design and the condition of the animals... Personally, I didn't like the presence of artificial corals in the fish tank; it looks somewhat unnatural... everything else is fine.
Amanda5586
It would be interesting to hear a few words about what equipment is used, when it was launched... preferably with photos.
Brandi
some specifications and equipment can be found here and here is a photo of the aquarium.
David4089
I personally didn't see any equipment... Can we at least do it this way?
Heather9815
You still can't understand that the reef doesn't last two or three years and there are no sumps, calcium reactors, various column fillers, and resins. There is only foam, aeration, and mechanical filtration, and everything is thriving and all parameters are normal. Whether you believe it or not, it works on an alternative filtration system. He has been trying to explain it to you for a week, and you are demanding photos of the equipment, but where can he get them? There hasn't been a sump or all those gadgets since 1998, and there won't be, and believe me, everything is flourishing, and there have been no issues except for corals and fish that have outlived their time.
Dana6523
Very beautiful aquarium! A small question: I noticed you have a Centropyge bispinosus. Does it not nip at the corals?
Robert5335
I apologize, but I haven't seen J.K. (living stones) in the Black Sea... What do you refer to as J.K. (living stones) from Cape Tarkhankut?
Katie3017
Good evening, I saw the aquarium in person a couple of weeks ago and I can confirm it's a balanced setup, especially with relatively "budget" investments. Respect and admiration to the owner. As far as I know, there will soon be another one with a focus on SPS corals!
Tracy4603
I hope not on the J.K. (living stones) from Cape Tarkhankut?
Christopher
Thank you. Just what I needed.
Can I clarify the purpose? (Simulation of a surf zone? It's not visible in the photo. Nitrogen cycle?)
Judy
Let's decide as we go along.
Kevin
We manufacture lime spray devices in-house, of various calibers. The reason for using lime is that this material produces the finest bubbles, like mist, better than the branded Aqua Medic. We use it in the filtration system and as an O2 saturator in the oxygen reactor (if available), or we simply place it in the aquarium, which can be pre-decorated in the bottom area, thereby improving the gas regime in the aquarium, making nitrogen processes more effective.
Amy5070
How often do you change the foam sprayers? They say they only last from 2 to 4 weeks...
Johnny
I have Aqua Medic diffusers, which last for a month, while homemade ones can last for two or maybe a little more (boil them for 10-25 minutes beforehand). Best regards.
Sheila
I don't understand what the German linden is different from???
Lori4746
The Aqua Medic atomizer costs 8-10! I think the entire process of creating the atomizers (cutting, drying, fitting, welding) is not worth winning just one month!
Angela
Guys, our friend, who is also a sailor, makes the sprayers for us and charges a symbolic price of 1 hryvnia each (by the way, he is a carpenter by profession). He makes 150-200 pieces at a time. He chooses the wood structure himself in such a way that the material really lasts longer. As a specialist, he knows what he's doing. How about I send you 10 pieces, so you can see for yourselves? No money involved, as a gift.
So, who’s first?
Amber9312
Read post 19 carefully, (and your German linden is being cut down in the area of Przemyśl, Poland) I don't think there are any genuine German 8 grams.
For me, everything in the sea is concerning; some are reworking German equipment, while I prefer sprayers made from our linden rather than the Aqua Medica mass-produced in Poland.
Best regards.
Erin2730
I don't understand why anyone would buy something just to modify it; isn't it easier to buy a good item right away? And how do you know that Aqua Medic is made in Poland and, moreover, that they are cutting linden there? Also, I don't understand why you refer to "our German linden." I can offer you a genuine Aqua Medic for 8, and it works for up to 3 months!
Joshua448
Read the forum and you will understand why they are being redone, "meaningful things." I know about Aqua Medic Polish because I lived there for a while. So thank you, we will somehow work on our linden, and when it is finished, we will switch if necessary.
Steven
As for me, it's better this way: 3 types of homemade sprayers made from domestic materials at the same price - 1. Here are the parameters in mm: 60x12, 75x16, 25x80. The first two last more than 2 months, the third one works from 3 to 4, sometimes longer. The real AquaMedic, with good German linden, has long since disappeared for me and Alexey.
Erica752
OFF: You guys really started a debate. What difference does it make - for a ruble or for eight, especially if the sprayer lasts for several months? It's not a significant expense. Or do homemade bubbles give smaller ones?
Sara
Anatoly has a beautiful aquarium with amazing animals; it's better to discuss them, at least in my opinion. Is the equipment really the main thing? I believe the main thing is the result: healthy and beautiful animals.
Amy
Stas, it's not just me, and we are not the first to come up with this. We only responded to what we use, and as always, we were met with hostility. We use them not because they are cheaper, but because they work better. I have 20 Aquamediv sprayers as a backup for when the better ones run out, and they are better because they have a smaller diameter, which creates better bubbles and clogs less. Best regards.
Wendy
Certainly! Without good and quality equipment, there will be no beautiful and healthy animals. Or do you know an aquarium that lives without equipment?
Chad
with all due respect. But why do you write "...against us..."? The topic seems to be about Anatoly...
Rachel9060
I wrote this because the main thing in an aquarium is still the animals. The first question to a person describing their aquarium is, "What equipment do you have?" Everyone puts in their aquarium the equipment they consider necessary. Isn't it uninteresting to discuss and argue about what equipment someone has?
Ricky9405
We are because this has affected me, and in Anatoly's topics, and vice versa, be a little more attentive, and you will see the same faces.
Yes, I know! Not just for one year. Beautiful and healthy animals will come from love for them and understanding THEM, not from whether a branded head costs $450 or a Chinese one costs $20.
Best regards.
Jessica5016
Now that's interesting! So, you know of a reef that lives without a skimmer, lights, water pumps, etc????? Can we see a photo of this reef? I think I'm not the only one who would like to see that!
Erin2730
Don't generalize like that; there are systems with simple skimmers and basic cleaning heads. Without sumps, coil-waxers, reactors, camps, etc. This is an old, forgotten topic that has been chewed to the bone.
Karen1649
Yes, there definitely are, I've seen quite a few! But mostly, I didn't see anything good in them! All the systems that look decent are assembled with a basic set of equipment. And those aquariums that lack it bring unnecessary expenses in terms of money, time, and effort for the owner! This is purely my opinion, and I don't impose it on anyone; if you like it that way, I wish you good luck!
Patricia1746
Regarding the "homemade" sprayers! In the photo on the left is what remains of the Aquamedic after five weeks of use. On the right is a "homemade" linden sprayer for 1 - in use for 5 months.
Steven7574
I really like Anatoly's aquariums and so on. What equipment they have is their personal business.
Christopher1252
Off-topic, ask the moderator to clean up your thread. Otherwise, a lot of irrelevant text has already been scribbled by the guys.
Angel628
Off-topic I posted a thread about diffusers on the forum and learned a lot of useful information from people. Many, of course, are skeptical about this idea, but no one categorically dismisses it. I went through Sander's website with his foamers on the same diffusers—there are even drawings in PDF format—very informative. If it's not a secret, what are the maximum volumes you have used for foamers working on diffusers? How many and what size stones did you use, and what was the compressor's performance? Thank you, sorry for the off-topic.
Frank7213
25x80, 2 pcs in pack 2200 aqu. 820 l. Compressor Chinese, 003 40W. 50 l/min.
Brandon9634
The smaller and worse the equipment, the more experience and talent the aquarist must have to achieve comparable results.
Breanna9982
You can only compensate for the evaporated volume from the aquarium. Almost always, the calcium obtained this way is not enough in a SPS tank. Tests will show everything.
I did not see the "for ridicule" mentioned in the previous posts.
Michele
Why not install a reactor???
In the reactor, a process occurs that is the opposite of coral growth, and all the elements that were once used by corals for growth dissolve back into the reactor and are supplied to the marine aquarium for reuse.
Moreover, everything is supplied in the proportions that are necessary and which are practically impossible to maintain by any other method.
As a filler, the reactor uses absolutely high-quality raw materials for the aquarium - coral skeletons.
Any powder taken from chemical reagents or from leading aquarium brands contains impurities that can accumulate over prolonged use.
Phillip9722
How can calcium hydroxide be used to raise carbonate hardness? Which is one of the main parameters for coral growth! Moreover, how to not only raise it but also maintain it?!
Mark7376
Damn.. and they say it's a matter of fact. About the diffuser in the aquarium, which for some reason many deny, about the alternative to standard cleaning methods.. Just stubbornly sticking to German and Polish wood... And have you not considered that a person simply enjoys tinkering with the sea? It's a hobby, an interest that is not a "burden." Sir, are you promoting and advertising your business? .....then that's for another thread.
Michael5242
In SPS - not at all, but in a soft reef - quite possibly. Calcium hydroxide raises carbonate hardness by binding with dissolved CO2 in water. Conditionally, a saturated solution of hydroxide has a Khn equivalent to 60-70. Sorry for the off-topic. Maybe the moderators could move all our discussions to a separate thread?
Megan
The point is that there is no alternative purification system. It’s about the terminology. We are talking about "alternative purification systems." They were named that way in 1961 (Li Chin Eng), and in the 1970s ("Berlin" by Peter Wilkinson). In fact, we all have "alternative systems." If anyone disagrees, please tell us what our purification systems are called (SAMP, calcium reactor, calcwasser stirrer - these are not purification systems!!!). Again, sorry for the off-topic.
Sara4035
Well, I read my post and it clicked)) so I need to work on my wording. Anatoly's experience is interesting to me. I have something to learn. Although I admit that some things come to mind on their own... with experience, of course)))
Sheila1322
Stas, you forgot one BUT. Calcium hydroxide will soon raise your pH with the same pleasure - then it will be bad for everyone.
Jacqueline5976
You have different aquariums. He has one tough setup. Soon he will give away some fish )))) He has different water requirements. A tambourine hangs nearby. That's why it looks so beautiful. But to each their own. Some people only keep soft water fish - they like it. I tried to keep a mix - it didn't work out. The outcome leaned towards hard water fish) As of today, my hard setup is the aquaculture of Lyamer, Stas, and Alexey (balex). I couldn't mix them((( You manage to do it - respect and admiration!
Joseph2576
I did not receive an answer to my question. Please tell me how to get away from the reactor and the Balling method using only calcium hydroxide.
Diana3118
I will ask the question again... please comment on this.
Melissa
I have "coral rubble" in my calcium reactor, through which water also circulates, but without the use of CO2, the water does not want to become saturated with calcium ions. Why?
Helen
Message from
A true SPS keeper can operate without a calcium reactor by compensating for alkalinity and calcium by adding calcium hydroxide, which is what we are doing. No significant harm has been observed from this. You just need to work correctly with Ca(OH)2.
Wow!!! The joke of the year!!!
Andrea6761
I will comment. When I introduced SPS into my aquarium, hydroxide was added as needed. He constantly monitored parameters such as pH, KH, Ca, and Mg. There was and is no PO4. Currently, the constant addition of alkalinity is not an adequate necessity, as the indicators of the aforementioned group are stable. I am very glad that I not only have coral fragments, but also that it doesn't work for someone without CO2 in the right context—let the aquarist take another look, think it over, and perhaps understand what’s what... By the way, would you like to take another look at the photos that were recently presented?
Kimberly
Can you help me figure this out? I just can't understand what's what!
Michelle1662
don't overdo it. of course, it adds carbonate.
Heather
Alexey has an extremely negligible amount of calcium consumers. In fact, he has a soft reef with a few SPS fragments. That's why it all works. In a real SPS tank, your manipulations are like a band-aid on a dead person.
Antonio
Beautiful, impressive aquas!
Christopher1774
I think everyone knows these wonderful aquariums. I wonder if their owners only pour in Ca(OH)2, or if there is still a calcium reactor, balling...
Jesse3979
A quote from. "I do not underestimate labor, observation, and experience, but they can be replaced by equipment." This is nonsense. Experience cannot be replaced by anything. Great!!! Instead of a calcium reactor - experience and deep understanding of processes.... If equipment is needed, then it is necessary and cannot be replaced by anything. And if the hydrobionts are not demanding, then one can give up a lot.
Cindy
May I ask! What is the confusion? The thing is that novice marine aquarium enthusiasts set up aquariums with soft corals and work with them for at least a year, and they find Anatoly's advice and the help they provide with their experience in maintaining a mixed reef with minimal costs closer and more necessary.
Daniel132
Golden words, Benjamin Benediktovich...
Gabriel
Water goes through coral debris.
(I understand that)
This is in your no less successful system.
I said I hated chemistry. That's why I'm planning the equipment, since not everything is "petra." Thank you for that. I'll reread and clarify.
For me, whether it's double or single... whether it's whiskey or cognac...
Elizabeth882
A quote from "Water passes through coral rubble. (as I understand it)" So our pH level is 8.1 - alkaline. The dissolution of coral rubble can generally be ignored. If it were dissolving intensively, our reefs made of live rocks would disappear within a year. In calcium reactors, the pH is 6.7, and the dissolution of coral rubble occurs at a much faster rate.
P.S. I also hated chemistry in school. I could only make little bombs from saltpeter and mix manganese with magnesium.
Vincent
Yes. Faster. But we are already intervening with equipment.
And what is interesting about colleagues is that the hard ones take nutrients from the water.
There is information that over time, the same coral gravel is periodically added.
It may be a misconception, but why do people add calcium and sodium bicarbonate (Aqua Medic) as a pH buffer in a system with 30 SPS/70 LPS%, and the corals grow and feel fine? Even with occasional problems with "green bubbles"... There are removers and flow in this system. Very calm feeding...
Yeah... a complex and interesting thing - a marine aquarium.

The most accurate judgment in the thread
I don't get involved in the discussion (although my education and experience allow me to), but I enjoy observing. For myself, having observed more than a dozen marine systems—very different systems—I have long determined that for a marine aquarist, the most important piece of equipment is a properly tuned SKIMMER!
Because even when launching two absolutely identical (well, as much as that is possible) systems, the results will differ.
P.S. The easier it is to tune the skimmer, the more experience the tuner has.
Antonio
I can't add anything to the point. I completely agree.
Kathryn514
Very interesting discussion, where, in addition to the axioms of professionals, the upcoming experience of newcomers can also be traced. Of course, there is some presence of bitterness and sarcasm. This does not apply to the latter (they haven't "gotten into it" yet)..... Overall, thank you all....
