While catching and transplanting a red anemone, I noticed an interesting effect. Downstream, about 20 cm away, there was a regular Quadricolor. After planting the stressed red anemone, it shrank and closed up. The tentacles of the red one didn't reach it, so it wasn't a burn. After that, once the red one calmed down, the other one also opened up. Conclusion: something anemones release into the water during stress causes other anemones to stress as well. I read somewhere that if a clownfish eats an aiptasia, all other aiptasias (wherever they are) hide. I also read that a certain type of fir (I can't remember the name, but it's a surname) releases an enzyme when attacked by beetles, which the beetles dislike. All the other firs in the forest (that weren't attacked) also release that enzyme. Chemical language?
