• Help with soft fragmentation.

  • Noah1632

Hello to all sailors. Please advise how to properly frag corals such as Sinularia brassica, yellow Lobophytum, and Sarcophyton sp. without a base. Huge THANK YOU in advance.

Nicole7122

There are no special rules for the specified corals. Under normal conditions, they grow and develop normally from a small cut fragment.

I would like to know more about the process of cutting and planting.

You cut any branch with a blade or a utility knife, tie it to a stone with a rubber band, and wait for it to root. Sarcophyton usually grows a baby next to the main stem, and that is what gets cut off.

I agree, I have tried gluing corals with epoxy and Coral Glue, and now I have switched to Moment Gel, which I am very satisfied with. It is especially suitable for attaching soft corals, even when the frag is cut and slimy. You just apply a little glue to the cut area and attach it to the rock, and there's no need to tie it with threads, etc. It holds super well and this glue does not negatively affect the coral. I highly recommend it to everyone!

Does it harden quickly? Do I need to dry the landing area?

Jennifer5371

It freezes in about 15-20 seconds, I didn't dry the landing spot, but if you dry it a little, I think it will grab instantly.

I even use this glue underwater. There is no alternative. However, if I need to glue a coral well, I almost use the entire tube.

And what about glue for hard materials - which is better, Epoxy or Moment Gel? Zyuht dusts a lot and then you can never unstick it, various putties like Tunze/Aquamedic/Reef don't stick at all... Is there any experience of long-term use of Epoxy/Moment without consequences like silicates, etc., in water?

Yolanda

Offtopic I preferred to use gel (specifically in small tubes) for SPS gluing. Coral then grows over the glue - it turns into solid stone. Although with epoxy, you can immediately mold the desired piece.

Leah

I didn't like the epoxy resin, although I put all the LPS and SPS on it; you have to wait a long time for it to set, and it can crumble, plus it smells)))

Moment-gel is the best—don't even doubt it, Nadya.

Drive the fish away when you're catching them. My fox glued its mouth shut.

Andrew7823

For a hard base, epoxy resin is better, for softness, gel. Proven.

and I have an antist.

Thank you all for your promptness..) I thought the gel was also like plasticine (you know, when you need to shape it / put it in a mold / make a structure), but I really like the new Vortex glue from the gels. However, you can't stick everything with it.
