• Gammarus - what a creature!

  • Helen

In the aquarium with the stone, there appeared a large number of Gammarus. At first, I was concerned that there was no one to eat them in my tank, as there are currently no creatures that feed on them. But that's not all! The results of my observations of these creatures!!! I understand that they are scavengers, but due to the lack of other creatures and thus the absence of food, these monsters first attacked a small colony (I'm not sure about the name - Parazoanthus), not allowing the poor colony to open up for three days, after which I moved the remaining colony to the sump. They didn't stop there! They started eating Aiptasia! (I couldn't believe my eyes) These monsters grab the lower appendage in the form of a tentacle (I don't know the correct term) and shamelessly eat it in a matter of minutes. After such meals, Aiptasia doesn't look very appealing. There are stalks with black, nibbled reminders of tentacles. I observed complete audacity - a Gammarus encountered a frightened (curled up) Aiptasia and began to eat it indiscriminately. I caught all the Aiptasia and transferred them to a new aquarium made specifically for them, plus for the eggs (I like them - I can't bring myself to let them drift in the depths of the canal).

I wonder how? With a net, maybe? If that's the case, help me catch one too – I'll owe you a favor.

It seems to be a special type of Gammarus that has not yet been found in anyone's aquariums—an aiptasia-like one.

Johnny

I am trading my aiptasia for this gammarus.

It all seems like a fairy tale; otherwise, someone would have noticed it earlier.

Alexander

Where has this gammarus been before?

Stacy6866

I have 50 liters in my aquarium, and they live well. They ignore each other.

Get a couple of Black Sea shrimp Palemon elegans. After a while, they will tear apart all the Stomatella, red worms, and Gammarus. I hope the aquarium you are transferring the aiptasia into is filled with sulfuric acid instead of water?
