• the starfish died :(

  • Bridget

I have long wanted to get myself such a wonder, but for some reason it died on the third day, and it gradually became paralyzed, first on one side... now worms are eating it... maybe it needed to be adopted for longer... I want to make attempt #2, maybe there are simpler stars... in terms of care, after all, it's not a cheap pleasure...

In terms of content, everything is the same. They live well, but they handle relocations terribly.

How did you take it out of the bag after dripping? With your hand and quickly into the water?

Jennifer5371

Many stars cannot withstand contact with air. Not even for a moment.

Brent7831

The "essence" of the question was in this. This concerns the link 100%. Although he has something else.

Tara2761

I reached out with my hand... it seems there was a mistake in this... it's a pity how it is.

Nicole263

my red fromea died like this... and another one, but not fromea, lasted six months, even though I "introduced" it to the aquarium in exactly the same way.

Brent7831

The problem is not that; it's just that the stars have folds on their underside due to their structure. When you take it out into the air and put it in water, a bubble of air gets trapped in the fold, and that's where the problem starts. Problems begin even on the way, when air bubbles in the wriggling bag get caught in the folds of the star. It's impossible to visually determine whether there is air in the folds or not. So, the star is a 100% lottery; it all depends on luck.

Robert

Next time, I punctured the entire bag in the water - air bubbled out, and you start to slowly turn the bag over.

Bryan1851

I had exactly the same stars - one lived for 3 days, the other for 1 week - and both .................

Kimberly4253

By the way, how much did you buy the star for? I got it for 25 currency units.

Katie5500

Did you think about what the star needs, what it loves, and what it doesn't, when you released the starfish into the aquarium a month or so old, huh?

Jeffrey6189

Guys, you can't do that! What do you mean "reached it by hand"? In literature or on websites, it says everywhere that you can't plant a starfish in the aquarium like that! That it shouldn't be placed in the aquarium before it's mature. I take it the seller didn't explain how to properly introduce it to the aquarium?

Joseph591

Citizens, if the seller ignores the basics, pulls out sponges and stars from the water into the air, and puts them in a bag while assuring you that everything is okay and you can do the same at home, then either this seller is doing it on purpose, or they need to go through a condensed program to eliminate illiteracy in maintaining a marine aquarium. It is better to purchase live creatures from trusted individuals whose honesty and experience are beyond doubt.

I think that not all stars are the same, and whether to transport them through the air or not is not that important. (There may be some types that are afraid of air, but I think they are rare and seldom reach us.) I have kept three types of stars, and none of them died until I sold or exchanged them; I often took them out of the water, and they didn't even get stressed. What’s important here is that the aquarium must be well-established with plenty of live rock, preferably an old reef, at least a year old.

Mary

The possibility that some species of starfish can survive even in so-called desiccation conditions and endure temperature fluctuations does not provide confidence that this approach can be applied universally to all echinoderms. Species such as Fromia milleporella, Fromia ghardaqana, and Linkia laevigata require more careful handling, as they are delicate species with a difficulty level of 3. This summer, I had to confirm the truth of this conclusion twice.

April3499

but it died in three days. Here it's either the seller's responsibility or improper transportation, unloading...

Linda

I bought it from Tkach for 50 units, well, I got a bit carried away, it was almost a childhood dream to have a star... now my wife decided to gift me one for New Year, maybe there's a type that's more resilient... or maybe it's better to give Savchuk's book instead.
