Hi!!! Guys, can you tell me who translated Black Sea crayfish into reef ?????? The problem is that I haven't been able to find any for 6-8 months!!!! I'm going on vacation and want to bring back a couple of buckets and try to acclimate them to high salinity!!! Thank you in advance!!!!!

Where do they give out crayfish by the buckets to vacationers?

Hello! It's better to bring the Clibanarius hermit crab, which is very beautiful and red in color. Unlike Diogenes, it lives on rocky substrates, along with snails and shrimp. All of them can tolerate ocean salinity, but the acclimation process should be slow, as these animals, unlike fish, handle sudden salinity changes poorly. I did the acclimation throughout the day, placing the brought crabs and snails in a small quarantine tank with aeration, using small water changes from the main aquarium, preferably through a drip system.

I also brought Black Sea hermits and Diogenes, as well as clibanarii. There were no problems with adapting to ocean salinity, but no Diogenes survived the molting (just like the shrimp), and it's not so easy to find clibanarii. By the way, did your Diogenes acclimatize well?

Unfortunately, they were eaten - there was a wrasse in the aquarium, and they lived in the sump for about a month, but then I introduced a hairy one, and it ate them; they were too weak and defenseless.

It's a pity, they lived for about 2 months, so the question remains open. However, the clibanaria have already lived for 2 years. But the gibbula died almost immediately; something didn't suit them.

Hello!!! Sorry for being a beginner, but I'm very curious about what: "gibulas" "diogenes" "klibanaria" ????????????????

Elizabeth

Gibbula is the snail Gibbula divaricata. Diogenes is the hermit crab Diogenes pugilator. Clibanarius is the bright red hermit crab Clibanarius erythropus. Here is a website dedicated to the Black Sea: The site is based on fragments of the book "The Life of the Black Sea" (A. Vershinin, 2003), which I believe is the best resource dedicated to the Black Sea.
