Right before my eyes, the fan worm lost its entire "crown" and floated away... what could that mean?

I had one like that, I thought it was all over - the little guy was dead. But after a couple of weeks, I saw that a new one had grown. They shed their crown if the conditions aren't right.

No, maybe someone is terrorizing him there. Although in that case, he would probably have collapsed from the straw altogether.

Don't make unnecessary movements, throw the crown in the trash and leave the little worm alone. Everything will grow back for him. I've dropped it twice.
