• Cryptocoryne and oodinium in a large aquarium

  • Jose

Guys, maybe someone can advise or has faced something like this. We have a large aquarium (1500 liters), which will be a reef in the future, but for now, it only has good live rocks, shrimp, brittle stars, strombus snails, and fish. The problem arose with the fish; one fish has been heavily affected, apparently by crypt. Catching the fish from this aquarium is, to put it mildly, unrealistic! Despite traps, the treatments we have at our disposal are either harmful to invertebrates or need to be used in such quantities that it's simply impossible to buy that much. Therefore, the question arises: has anyone encountered such a situation, and how and with what can we treat the fish considering the volume and invertebrates?

In my aquarium, the crypt arrived together with the fish. I set up a powerful UV filter, which worked for a week or maybe longer. I provided good food, and I remember the temperature was higher then—it was summer. There’s also a cleaner shrimp; I’ve seen sick fish lining up to it many times. And there should be euphyllia in the tank—they seem to clean the water from wandering cysts, or whatever those pathogens are called. Everything passed... something like that... without medication. And catching them is still a stress for the fish—not recommended...
