Good afternoon. I am seeking help in creating a mini sump similar to a hang-on filter. The idea to create such a sump arose from the lack of relatively inexpensive and, at the same time, silent hang-on skimmers. I couldn't find anything decent except for the Deltec 300. As a result, I came up with the idea to make one. Does this idea have a chance of success? I have roughly sketched a variant, and the dimensions are not final: I plan to place a sump behind the aquarium, which is 60 cm long and 27 cm high. The water intake into the sump is planned to be from the far right compartment in the drawing (the 8 cm one), with the drain flowing by gravity from the left compartment. My question is this: as I understand it, the water level fluctuation will occur in the compartment with the drain? It is unclear what height the drain should be, and should the last partition before the drain compartment be an overflow from the top or the bottom? I understand that this option is not ideal, but is there still a chance for it to work? I don't suffer from masochism—if the idea is doomed, I will abandon it. I just wanted to place the equipment and skimmer without cluttering the aquarium, which is already small. I would appreciate any advice, suggestions, and criticism, preferably without rotten eggs and tomatoes.
