• Who has the Fluval Sea PS1 Protein Skimmer? Respond!

  • Erica

Good evening! Can anyone respond who has the Fluval Sea Protein Skimmer? I bought it here, and the girl said it's the best: quiet, energy-saving, and you won't need another filter, it's a great item. In practice, I tested it in an aquarium filled to 3/4 with still fresh water. It seems to me that it's not quiet at all. This is my first skimmer—maybe the others are even louder? Plus, it vibrates, and so do the walls of the aquarium and the stand, and I think even a bit of the floor. I'm in shock. I hung it according to the instructions on the suction cups, the immersion depth is maintained—right in the middle between the min and max limits. I also set the cup to the middle. The valve is almost fully opened. We checked the floor level—everything is fine. What could be the problem? How can this be isolated—maybe there should be some layer between the floor and the stand, and between the stand and the aquarium? Or maybe I'm just imagining things, and this is actually a normal situation? Where can I listen to how the Fluval PS1 should sound?

Is it relevant? Or have you figured it out?

I want to get one like this. What can you tell me about it?

Check the skimmer in saltwater. Freshwater is not a good indicator. Additionally, it may "break in" over time and become quieter. Experiment.

A normal device. It has been working for me for 4 months in 100 liters of seawater. I am completely satisfied for the price. It makes noise more often due to the loose fit of two parts of the casing to each other - you need to secure it tightly by pressing on the "Velcro" until you hear a characteristic click. But even after that, there are small gaps at the joints, through which air bubbles seep out - I thought about returning it because I couldn't achieve the foaming effect like in the YouTube videos. However, after a couple of weeks, the joints were covered with a coating, and the foamer started working as it should.
