The essence of the question is simple. I want to test the performance of the skimmer. I take a large pot (50 liters), add salt to reverse osmosis water, place the skimmer, and turn it on. The question is: what and in what quantity should I add to the water to test the quality of the skimmer? Thank you.

You shouldn't let it get stale; there's nothing for the skimmer in fresh water. Use water from the aquarium (after a water change, for example). As a last resort, a little food, but it's still not the same.

I disagree, to check the skimmer, the water should be seawater. My aquarium is still in the preparation stage and I don't have any "old" seawater. That's why I'm asking what to add to fresh seawater to test the skimmer's operation? For example, sugar (I read somewhere). Or maybe just urinate in the water. Huh?

Ideally, the water should be salted. Density affects the skimmer... It seems to me that it can only be tested in the aquarium. Since the skimmer doesn't start working properly right away. Sometimes it takes a week or two for it to settle in.

It's nothing. If you want to provoke the foam to "go crazy," you can add laundry detergent. Without "live" water, the experiment won't work.

This is not a joke; I can't provide a link to where this was discussed about two years ago right now, but the essence is that the composition of Akutan includes this polyvinyl..., which is responsible for the foaming of Akutan. I bought it at the pharmacy in a highly concentrated solution of a detoxifying agent, and you only need literally half a drop for 50 liters.

I would do it this way - throw in a piece of fish to let it rot, then pour in some vodka, set the skimmer to the mode, and see what volume of foam it produces. God grant that it be so, but the permissible amount of organic matter in the sea and freshwater are incomparable. In the sea, the foam must eliminate even the slightest impurities, and achieving this is not so easy.
