On the market, there is "Australian" equipment with slanted eyes. Against the backdrop of brands like Aquamedic, Tunze, and similar ones, considering the price, the Chinese are champions. If compared to the leaders, there are many questions. The main one is that such a impeller will NEVER provide the claimed performance. They write 450 l/h - in reality, it's 250 l/h. They write 600 - 400. The Chinese probably copied it from Aquamedic, and the original, even with a favorable wind, is not capable of such performance, and this is with a better design (three rows of spokes instead of two). The question about the pump's design is still unclear - what is the shaft material??? what is the bushing material??? This affects how long it will last and how noisy it will be. Maybe someone has held it in their hands - please share. This is the first thing that caught my eye...

I bought the NW-110-6520 Protein skimmer yesterday. I want to tinker with it and integrate it into the sump for my 200-liter aquarium. What can I say right away? The skimmer is fine, but the pump apparently doesn't have the appropriate impeller; replace it and everything will be fine.

A skimmer cannot be considered normal if it has a poor pump and impeller, as the performance of the skimmer depends on them by about 70%. Change... to what???? What are the options????? And how much will it cost???? How will it perform???? And how to make a choice if there is no experience????

I completely forgot to mention the shaft. The pump magnet is covered with plastic. The shaft is ceramic. The plastic impeller has two rows of blades. In terms of noise, it's relatively comfortable. The original pump is rated at 1000 liters/hour for water. Naturally, it's weaker. I tried using a 3000 liters/hour Atman. That's a bit too much. The skimmer is too small for such a flow if using the Atman injector. If you direct the air flow to the impeller, the 3000 model is quite noisy. But overall, there's plenty to experiment with. In the end, it will work as it should. The price is just ridiculous, and when there's a complete failure in the family budget, this is the only option for me.)))

What material is the bushing made of? You can try attaching a fuzzy one; it should be better.

What does the shaft go into???? In normal pumps, the shaft and bushing are ceramic. If the bushing is plastic, it will break quickly.

Start with the native skimmer pump, and then see how it goes.

What relation does the pump have to the skimmer? The skimmer is just a body design and nothing more; the rest is technical equipment.

I looked at the bushings. The bushings are rubber. The shaft fits tightly and doesn't turn. Only the rotor on the wasp rotates. I swear, I salted the aquas yesterday. Now I will watch how this foamer works. There's nothing to knock out yet, but there are a lot of bubbles. Inside the foamer, it's like milk. You can't see anything. Like all the Chinese, it's a bit noisy... More to come.

Question: Why leave a gap between the glass and the neck? I plan to modify it, specifically: 1. Install a tap for water discharge, which will allow for better, finer adjustment, the sponge will be removed, and there will be no "fountain" sound. 2. Glue the neck to the glass, and reduce the neck's circumference by 5 mm. What does everyone think?

I checked the pump again due to the purchase of a two-ton model. Indeed, the single-ton model has plastic bushings. The two-ton model has ceramic ones.

This is - a comparable skimmer in power (38W), the foam in it also starts from the middle of the cone and occupies the volume of a 90mm pipe. Moreover, they hum and heat the water approximately the same, but the result is different, and I think it's at least twice as much.

Let's put it this way... You need a skimmer for a specific volume and load. You should spend the minimum without compromising the final result (performance, reliability, noise, ease of maintenance). In my opinion, this is definitely not China. Buying a kit that you'll have to tinker with for a lifetime and invest money into, while still not achieving a decent result, is possible if you think that the process is more important than the result. If someone enjoys tinkering, then why buy a skimmer? Just buy pipes and tinker as you wish.

I looked at your photo, and it seems to me that the water level in the skimmer is too low; it should be raised. Not just raised, but there should be water where the black cone is so that the foam can rise properly through the pipe into the cup. The approximate water level is indicated by the red arrow in the photo. The cup design is borrowed from Tunze; at first, I thought it wouldn't work, but it works quite interestingly. The pump there is really not great, even a 2-ton one. It can be easily modified for a 3-ton New-Jet with a fuzzy wheel. With it, the skimmer works much more effectively.

I installed a system for this person... he has "something constantly buzzing" (as he complains)... So what you posted doesn't surprise me... The modified pen works much better than the original pump, but if the owner has the complex of "I can hear it working, and there's nothing I can do," then that's the Indians' problem... And what did you mean by that? That RIFOKTOBUS is crap? Well, I guess everyone already knows that... This person didn't believe me right away and bought it... For 400 bucks, he won't buy a pen from you, why would he? Dima's homemade pen can be bought for around 150-200 dollars, and it will really do the job.

All skimmers produce sound, but its magnitude directly depends on the quality and design. This issue is present in all of them; I haven't met anyone who likes the noise. Everyone knows this, yet they still buy them. It's even better to buy four octopuses.

The price of the product depends not only on how it "shovels" but also on the quality, reliability, and the level of sound produced. I suggested the option with Laguna, which, in my opinion, is the only one that will satisfy a person precisely because of the low (in comparison to any others) level of sound and vibration.
