• Water level in the skimmer

  • Cassandra7840

I'm trying to make a simple siphon (driven by a compressor), but I have one unclear question. How does the upper cut of the inner tube relate to the water level? Should it be higher, lower, or level? And what are the consequences if it's not as it should be?

Igor, hello! The internal pipe should be below the water level; the lower, the better. Otherwise, there will be strong turbulence on the surface, which will worsen foam formation. Check out the photos of the Aquamedic mini-flotor, which can be found on the Aravana website; the internal pipe is almost a third of its length below the surface. I also want to say that out of all the wooden diffusers sold in our city, only the "Hobbi" brand worked for me; everything else is complete garbage and a waste of money. Best regards.

Maybe buy a ready-made Chinese one at Arovana? It's an exact copy of the Aquamedic mini-flotor, but the price is several times lower. As for the sprayers, I bought Red Sea; the others didn't work. And also, a compressor with less than 300 l/h is not enough; it's better to have more.

No, there are no cheap ones yet. Rezun was a decent cheap pen, maybe there are still some left in Troitsk.

Here, I think we can determine how low to set the skimmer:

Thank you all, sorry for disappearing. I already made something out of two Biola juice bottles, two 20 cm³ syringes, and a part of a toilet tank valve. Something is pushing dark, but not quite confidently. I'll post photos a little later.
