• Glass scrapers

Comrades, lovers of marine aquaristics! A question has arisen about purchasing a scraper for algae. The assortment is quite extensive... from cheap ones costing 20-40 to Aquamedic scrapers priced at 600-1500. Please advise who uses what and what your impressions are of your devices? I am not eager to make a scraper myself, and I don't want to fall for a branded "rip-off" – the time is not right to be throwing around 100-200 bucks. There are options to buy a used Aquamedic or Tunze on eBay... or is it better to buy new? How do they perform? Do the blades scratch the glass? Thank you for your answers. Best regards, Imir.

Magnetic Atmans are good for daily wiping, plus they don't sink.

To be honest, I don't use scrapers at all after I once tried cleaning with regular foam (it doesn't sink, it's dense enough to clean without problems, it's inexpensive, and there's no risk of scratching the glass).

Jeremy

By the way, about the scraper... This person doesn't bother with it at all.

Scrapers with blades are a sure way to scratch the glass, and the work is tedious...

I use the Atman magnet. I'm quite satisfied with it. Of course, the Aquamedic will probably last longer and will be cleaner, but for this money, I can buy a lot of Atman. I ask Aquamedic distributors not to kick me - the truth is, everyone has their own opinion.

The best scraper is a plastic card, which can even be inserted into a manual scraper on a stick with some modifications to the card. However, it's better to clean by hand. The Aquamedic with a blade (the one with the blade and rubber) scratches the glass, and the blades work 3-5 times before they become dull. The Aquamedic Mac (magnet) is powerful and of high quality, but it doesn't float. The Atman floats, but in my opinion, the magnets are weak, and the quality of the glue is not great.

I use the JBL FLOATY II. It's a great scraper in my opinion!

Well, it doesn't sink in water )))) I'm using a magnetic one, I don't remember the brand, it's working fine.

I use a piece of synthetic padding, quite convenient...

Dim, it must be not bad... I used a tangle-free line, also not bad... Atman, for its price category, is quite good :-)... And what do you have that doesn't sink :-)? Or does it sink?

I use the Ferplast Magnetic Glass Cleaner Blu 9039-large, 6.5 x 8.5 x 5.5 cm and I am very satisfied.

I discard cards and various types of scrapers on sticks because the stiffeners and ties make maintenance very complicated. We'll think about powerful magnets... so much has already been invested that a good magnet from Tunes or Mediki won't make much of a difference! The main thing is that it cleans for its own money.

I have a not very powerful magnet, JBL+ blade on it, for 15mm glass. It cleans (even though my glass is 19mm), it doesn't scratch. I'm satisfied. But if I were to change it, it would only be for something like this.

Jeremy

Here is a good option for a scraper.

Nancy

I also don't sink, probably the same with the atman, it cleans the dosine quite well, although it doesn't sink.

Helen

I ordered a wooden "shark" and a set of gaskets for it - 100 euros for everything with delivery to my home. Well, I can buy the aquamedic at any time to try it out.

Destiny

we took a cheap one for about 20 - it scratches the glass.

Christopher3770

Which one exactly?

Ricardo7341

I use a blade (I don't clean the glass often) and it doesn't seem to scratch))

Danielle

I don't remember exactly, we got it at Arovana, it was inexpensive back then, either the brand name was not on the scraper or it wore off, and the box is gone.. it seems to be Resana's. But it definitely scratches. At first, it was in a 100L tank. After a month of use, I noticed scratches, I thought it wasn't the scraper, but then I checked it on a quarantine tank made of completely new glass.

It scratches. And under such conditions, it's better to use a plastic card; it definitely won't scratch. I had a resun for a long time in a small aquarium (20L, 4mm), everything was fine, maybe it was a bad batch or a snail crawled in? Before wiping, I would lift the "dry" part and check the "wet" part; sometimes melania crawls in or a grain of sand gets in.

Jessica

I will have to try it.
