How annoying is the noise from the foam generator?

With a properly upholstered cabinet, the noise is almost inaudible.

I have a cabinet covered, but it makes noise and there is a rumble through the tube, foam rubber Riff Octopus.

In my opinion, a lot depends on the specific conditions: the location and power of the foam generator, the type of engine, the presence of a silencer on powerful foam generators, etc. I have a stock H&S 110-F2000, with no modifications, and it is almost inaudible with the cabinet closed.

I use the Deltec MC500 skimmer. At first, it made a bit of noise, but now it's almost silent.

There is an "octopus" and a Chinese pump, the aquarium medic 2500, which is almost silent. But I agree that it all depends on specific conditions. Personally, I have a computer nearby, and the system unit is louder, and when I'm home, it's always on. I also think it depends on the individual; for some, it's very noisy, while for others, it's not.
