• Salt for MiniNemo

  • Jose

Good afternoon. I am planning to set up a small marine aquarium. The next question is about choosing salt. After reading a lot of topics here, I concluded that people tend to use whatever is available in the store. Are my conclusions correct, or is there really a difference between Aqua Medic Biosal and Aqua Medic Meersalz when it comes to salting small aquariums? What salt is generally preferable to use (from what we have available) for small volumes (35 liters) with minimal equipment? Right now, Arovana only has Tetra Marine SeaSalt, and it is the most expensive, so if there is no significant difference, why pay more?

Tetra seems to be a decent salt, and I've only used the reef salt from Aquamedic; I don't know about these two.

Aqua Medic seems to be made to order, or is it constantly available in your city? By the way, if anyone is willing to sell a 20 kg package, offers in the personal messages. As I understand it, the choice of salt is a matter of feng shui

AquaMedic is almost always available in Arovana. It's also found in stores, but the prices are not Arovana's.

The difference between Reef salt, Biosal, and Meersalz is not clearly defined by sellers or manufacturers. The descriptions provided are

I have been using TETRA MARINE SeaSalt for 10 months and I am satisfied with it, and I do not intend to switch to another

I tried Reef salt from Sera. I was very satisfied. The positive aspect of this salt is its good buffering capacity. The pH is 8.47 when mixing, and it maintains this level with remarkable stability... (Reef Crystals from Aquarium Systems, which I used constantly, can't compare at all). To achieve the desired salinity, I use less salt by weight than with the same "Reef Crystals". Calcium is 400 mg/L according to the JBL test. Overall, it's worth considering.

How to determine if salt is good? Prove that the salt is good: 1. When we open a bucket of salt, we can touch it with our hands. If the salt is as hard as a brick and you can see grains of rock salt, it's crap (often seen with Chinese salt). If the salt is soft and fluffy, then it has a chance of being good. 2. When dissolved in reverse osmosis water, it should completely dissolve within 4-6 minutes, with no visible residue. This is also an indicator of quality. There are salts that do not dissolve at all (Chinese). 3. By observing pets and corals, they are the main indicator of salt quality, and they don't care about chemical analysis, as long as they like it. Everyone sets their own tasks and goals for what they want to achieve in their aquarium, and the salt is crucial for this, without a doubt. My goal is hardy SPS corals, and the only salt that allows my corals to grow well and be brightly colored is TROPIC MARIN Seasalt

Colin1418

Have you tried Tetra? Almost all salts fit these characteristics, except for Khati, and it will work for a fish tank...

Michele9664

The corals reacted more or less normally, but the polyps open up more from Tropic

Hello Andrey, I wonder what it would be like to read all the trace elements in Tetra salt and Tropic Marin and compare them for general observation. It would be very interesting to see which salt has more of what. If possible, please write it down. Best regards.

Here was a link to a comparative analysis of the most popular salts. You can download a PDF file there. Among the tested salts, there is no Tetra. But from this analysis, it can be understood that none of us enthusiasts will make an accurate salt analysis. It's also clear that each of the salts is lacking something. Or has something, but in larger amounts. In general, interesting information.
