• Bitter experience - the marine aquarium leaked.

  • Jacob7201

Yesterday evening I came home from work and immediately ran to the aquarium to turn on the fish's light. When I approached the aquarium, I was shocked -1/3 of the water was simply gone, I think it leaked. The water level was just up to the place where the Aquael Fan1 filter's head is located, and the air intake tube was filled with water, meaning the filter started running in the opposite direction. Why? It turned out that they were changing the wires on the poles in our street and changed the phase, which caused the filter to spin the other way. The consequences of the invasion were not terrible - everything was absorbed by the wall, and nothing appeared on the lower floor by the morning. So, the air intake tube should be secured in such a way that its beginning is above the aquarium, so that in case of such a situation (touch wood) you don't have the same

Science fiction. The phase shift in alternating current determined the direction of rotation. They simply turned off the light, and if the tube was below the water level, then according to the law of communicating vessels...

Sorry, can you remove this topic from the sea section? I have moved it to Aquarium and Equipment.

In all such pumps, the direction of rotation changes even if you simply unplug and plug the plug back into the socket - the impeller will spin in the opposite direction.

The water leaked not because the filter started spinning in the opposite direction. It doesn't have a clear direction of rotation. Also, swapping the wires in an alternating current is equivalent to plugging the plug into the socket upside down. The water likely leaked because the air intake tube was hanging below the water level, and upon restarting, the filter expelled a stream of water through it. And then the siphon effect occurred! P.S. It's not necessary to duplicate the same question in several sections.

The direction of the impeller's rotation has absolutely no relation to the direction of the water flow, none at all.

I generally put a stopper from a medical dropper on the compressor tube at the exit of the aquarium, and I close the compressor tightly with everything. I cover the stopper.

It's easier to install a check valve on the compressor - 1.5, and you can sleep peacefully.

Gentlemen, what does "the sea - general questions" have to do with this??? Moderator AU!!!
