• What should a living stone be like?

  • Jeanne

As a seller of live rock and simply as an aquarist, I am interested in the question of which live rock is a priority for our aquarists. In Europe, they prefer live rock that has been in a tank with powerful skimmers and from which everything, including the Carolina, has been removed. Using such live rock provides a clear understanding that illegal organisms and other unwanted materials will not end up in the aquarium and will not decompose in it, etc. Here, however, the priority is for the live rock to have everything... everything that can be imagined and even more, so that the Carolina is almost dazzling to the eyes. And this is what we call with such a loud term as Premium live rock, with a corresponding markup. When I buy live rock in Europe, I am laughed at when I say that I need live rock with all the natural "filling." So I am interested in what kind of live rock our aquarists want to see and why?

Congratulations! I know that many people praise the stone from A., and I bought it there myself and was very satisfied. It had Carolina, various worms (including half-meter ones), and much more. However, there were no aiptasia or any harmful organisms. I bought from other people as well. They are also a good company, and the stone, as you say, is "European-style," but it had aiptasia.

Yesterday, I visited a well-known Polish store that sells everything for the sea. They really have stone in large pools with pumps and big foam makers. And the stone does look very much like S.R.K. (dry reef stones), although after examining it, I was convinced that it is indeed K. (live stones). However, the sellers say it comes from Indonesia. The truth is, they keep it for about six months. What surprised me even more was the price of 13 dollars per kilogram, not 20 like we have. I asked the sellers why our prices are so high.

This issue has already been discussed. Only we sell patents for fish transport bags, thermal boxes, etc. If you bring live animals or live rocks yourself, you would ask a different question - why is the price so low at 20 euros? I haven't encountered anything like that; usually, there is nothing there.

Bethany

because they take it there, here they resell it

I don't know about the stone, but for example, I brought fish - the transportation of a box costs €100, and there are 8 fish in the box. So even if you buy in Poland, $20 is not the most interesting price. These are our realities.

What do you need to pay for at customs for the stone?

Andrew9581

What kind of valuable fish is it that costs 100 euros?

Brooke

And at which border did you pay such a price?????

Denise

I understand that, unfortunately, almost all maritime topics boil down to who pays and earns how much. That's probably why new topics don't appear in this section. I am forced to close the topic.
