• Need help restoring the sea.

Please advise on what to do with the aquarium and how to restart the marine setup. In 2015, the Ferplast STAR CUBE aquarium, which holds 230 liters and contains corals and live rocks, was left without electricity. After the power was restored, there was no one and nothing left to save (the lights were off for six months). At that point, I gave up and didn't want to do anything or restart it. It has remained in that state until today. Now I'm considering reviving it. What should I do with the rocks? Should I just throw them away and buy new ones, or can I keep them as a base? How can I clean the aquarium from the accumulated salts? What should I do with the equipment (filter, heater, etc.)? Please help with advice!

Bethany

I would leave the rocks. Consider them as S.R.C. (dry reef rocks) and see how to start with S.R.C. (dry reef rocks). Rinse the aquarium and equipment with water, and for anything that doesn't come clean with water, use citric acid. Check the equipment in operation, keep the working ones, and replace the non-working ones.

Why throw away stones or count them as S.R.K. (dry reef stones)? They remained as J.K. (live stones) as they were. Or could something have happened to them without the current as well?

Gregory

In stagnant water, they simply suffocate and will be "stuffed" with decay, just like S.R.K. (dry reef rocks). Therefore, the main goal is to extract this decay from them and revive them so that they become full-fledged J.K. (live rocks).

Jeremy

They say it correctly. J.K. (live rocks) have turned into S.R.K. (dry reef rocks). Prepare as S.R.K. (dry reef rocks), rinse the equipment and start up.

Thank you for the advice! Just let me know, should I rinse the rocks under running water with a brush or I read somewhere that I can use a pressure washer? Also, the salt that won't come off with water, you said I can use citric acid. Should I just dilute it and use it to clean, or do I need to heat it up? And I can't seem to find information on starting an aquarium with dry reef rocks (D.R.R.), could you help with that?
