• Reviving dry reef rock in a marine aquarium

  • Tanya

Hello to all marine aquarium enthusiasts. I want to create a thread about reviving dry reef rocks (DRR). As an example, I will show my aquarium and my rock. I recently bought a rock on the forum and started the revival process. In my 450-liter aquarium, I added 150 liters of RO water. The TDS was showing 002, and after adding the rock, it became 035. I placed all the pumps I had for mixing in the aquarium. I also installed an external filter, which contains fine-pored sponges, ceramic rings, carbon, and synthetic fiber. To start, I added 4 ampoules of Prodibio Stop Ammo. I did not install a heater. Can you tell me if I am doing everything correctly? Is there anything unnecessary, or should I add something?

Amber

You need to revive in salt water with a small amount of live rock added. Soak and rinse in osmosis. They mistakenly translated Prodibio stop ammo.

Buy cheap salt, such as Tetra, dissolve in osmosis, 34-35 grams per 1 liter. Later, with water changes, you can switch to more expensive salt. As correctly noted, add J.K. (live rocks), and let it mature.

Why is there a filter there?)) And with bio-fillers too? Stones don't eat, so they don't excrete anything. You can add fish later, and then you can turn on the filter. It's good that you didn't buy live rock from me; it would have been a disaster for it in osmosis, and you would have wasted your money. You can use Blue Treasure salt; it's not expensive but has high magnesium levels. And of course, you'll need live rocks after you salt the tank. It won't be long before coralline starts to appear.

The filter was used for mechanical cleaning. The water was very murky. I placed the finest sponges and synthetic fiber in the filter. The water has cleared up. Regarding the removal of stones, so much debris has accumulated on the bottom over these three days. Tomorrow I will take out the stone and wash it with a pressure washer. As far as I know, S.R.K. (dry reef stones) need to be thoroughly rinsed and cleaned before being placed in saltwater.

Then why was it put in the aquarium if it's not cleaned? Is it that S.R.K. (dry reef rocks) that is sold with remnants of cement? Made in China?

For mechanical cleaning, ceramics and coal are not used. A sponge and synthetic padding are needed for this.

I recommend rinsing the stones, assembling the compositions outside the aquarium, and starting the system. Be sure to add about 5 kg of live rock after some time. Use a pressure washer to remove external contaminants, and organic matter will take at least a month to clear out.

Emily

That's the plan. I want to rinse the rock with a pressure washer. I will soak it for a month, washing the rock and changing the water every three days. I plan to put the live rocks in a sump to prevent any debris from getting into the display. The setup will be ready when the dry reef rocks are not leaching anything, meaning phosphates and nitrates are at zero.

Pamela

which cement? what are you talking about?

Brandon9634

I will do just that.
