• Is a reef 90 cm high possible or not?

  • Danielle

Greetings! There is an opportunity to get a decent aquarium for a reasonable price, but the height of the aquarium is 90 cm. I'm sitting here trying to figure out if I can create a reef or not. Google hasn't provided me with any useful information on this. What are your thoughts on this topic?

Kimberly3727

I think it will be very inconvenient to service it.

Julie4738

It is very inconvenient to service 120 cm, but 90 cm is easy.

Sarah

This is a beautiful display aquarium, but 1. the problem mentioned above 2. the power of the light fixture that will penetrate the water column, although there are many such display aquariums abroad, the light is mainly metal halide. (and this is energy consumption, etc.)

Erin

Having a Porsche, they don't think about a gas installation for fuel savings... it's the same here, if there is money for such an aquarium, then there will also be money for a good LED... I think it could just be a stunning reef...

Jeffrey6189

I have a Porsche with a gas setup, 2 cylinders... That's how most people drive who know how to make money. And the ice is still very raw... So on normal reefs, they use both MG and ice and T5.

Megan

Who knows how money is made? Porsches are not bought - they are expensive to repair.)) And somehow, large fish tanks, even with sharks, don't impress me much. I can be impressed by a small but high-quality reef. A year or two ago, I would have agreed with you, but time goes on and everything changes.

Megan

Off-topic, since no one has really answered anything yet, I don't know.)) I only have a few days to think.

Tasha

Hi, Valera! There used to be an aquarium about 2 meters high in the Central Asia, I don't know who lived there, but it was impressive.

Yvette209

Hi, Kolya! What used to impress may now disappoint, and I don't like half measures. If it's a reef, it should be a full coral.)) So I'm wondering if such a trick with a height of 90 cm will work or not? I couldn't even find a photo on Google of a tall reef, which is why I'm in doubt.

Sheila

What about other dimensions? Length, width?

I'm thinking that with a height of 90, a powerful light will be needed, but won't it be the case that the upper corals will be burned by too much light, or on the contrary, the upper ones will be fine while the lower ones will not get enough?

Christopher8654

I had a height of 1.10 cm - I struggled a lot (now it's 80 cm). I only used LED light.

Bethany

How do the corals feel at such a height, what is the settlement like, what successes have been achieved?

Rita

The width I had was 60 cm, but the length was 1.10 m. I had soft corals, so the upper sinularias, sarcophytes, and gorgonians grew taller and shaded the lower ones... an unfortunate size. If the length were at least 1.5 m or if I tried SPS, it might look nice; illuminating it is not a problem. The aquarium has moved to a larger volume.

Jessica

Sometimes the power goes out for me. SPS come out of the water... that's when those 20-30 cm are not enough... they will just be in the middle part of the tank, there's room to grow... but at the bottom... you're not planning to have a planted tank...

David2398

I'm talking about the one that is 80 in height. LPSs.

Caitlin3279

I haven't personally encountered such a height, but I think it will be quite high; over 70 cm is already very inconvenient, especially since it will be a reef with corals. If it were just a fish aquarium, it would be fine.

Kenneth7210

If it's 80 cm high, that's great, I'm happy with it... the chair is higher and I can reach the bottom))))

Amber9312

Well, where there are 80, 90 is not a problem...

Karen2578

I'm not talking about maintenance,)) how do the corals grow, which ones are good, which ones are not so good? Are there any problems with the corals, not with the maintenance, maybe there are some nuances?))

Tracy4603

What problems could there be with coral growth at a depth of 80 cm?!?! In nature, the same species of coral often occupies a niche with a difference in depth of several dozen meters!

Rachael

I don't know, that's why I created this topic. In nature, everything is different; it's not for nothing that aquariums with corals are made around 60 cm.

Rita

No artificial light source developed so far has come close to the intensity of natural light.
