Dear forum members, please help me set up a nano reef. I am a beginner in this matter. I have a 40/40/40 aquarium. What equipment and other items do I need, sand, live rocks or dry reef rocks? Thank you. I thought and thought and came up with an idea. I decided to convert my 80x40x40 planted tank into a Black Sea setup. I have questions: will the Aquael VersaMax FZN-3 be suitable as a filter, do I need to install a water pump, and what kind of lighting should I choose?

Crystal Profi filters are not suitable for the sea. You will need a simple backpack filter (Aquael VersaMax FZN-2-3 or Hagen Fluval C3), not a canister filter.

What exactly should I explain? Why are canister filters not used for the sea??? Read "Stepanov D. - Marine Aquarium at Home," or even better - "Reef Aquarium" by A. Savchuk S. 2005 (you can find it online if you want). If reading is too much because "there are too many letters," then just take my word for it - hang a backpack filter on your tank and you will be happy! I use one like that in a 30x30x35 cube.
