• Struggle with Wallonia

Hello everyone. I'm already fed up with Valonia; I can't keep up with collecting it by hand. I read that the pencil urchin enjoys eating Valonia. Is that true? Has anyone encountered this? And how does the pencil urchin get along with corals? Will there be any problems? I can't add fish since the aquarium is small (20 liters).

I had such a misfortune... at first, I was just collecting, and when the water parameters returned to normal, it disappeared on its own... P.S. The main thing is to collect very carefully so that the bubbles in the water don't burst.

Christine864

The parameters seem to be normal. The aquarium is almost 2 years old, and the corals are all doing great. What parameters contribute to valonia?

Katie5500

Honestly, who knows, at that moment I didn't pay attention.

Brianna

I will allow myself to disagree; this is not a priori. In the summer heat, many corals of mine have died, but there has been no emergence of volonia... I also disagree; I have dry reef rocks (C.R.K.) in all my aquariums, just like in my former dacha, but there, volonia was only on live rocks (J.K.). This is more likely, although I would have my doubts... I have thought for a long time about the reason for the growth and why it disappeared... An interesting article on this topic.

I have scrubbed the stones and cleaned them from the valonia, and I don't even fish it out. The aquarium has been running for 7 months, and I haven't seen any hooliganism from it. It just cleans the stones and that's it.

Kenneth7331

Does he eat chetomorphs, caulerpa, etc., and if so, at what rates?

John5528

ordinary dark. I also pulled out the stone, cleaned it, rinsed it, but it still appeared. (I spat on it) then I noticed that in these places the stone stings. and it started to slowly disappear. maybe the water parameters were just good and didn't let it grow.

They are constantly sharpening, even when it's tiny and not visible... Take it off very carefully, without popping it; as soon as it pops, the spores will get into the small cracks of the J.K. (living stones) and it will all start over...

Mary

Vodka. The cyan will indeed seep in, but after stopping the addition of vodka, it will settle on its own.

Jessica

Complete nonsense, what does vodka have to do with cyanide and with Volhynia as well???

Derek7322

Try it - you'll find out. The lack of personal experience is not a reason to dismiss the experiences of others as nonsense.

Collin

I have tried it more than once!!! Moreover, not only vodka, but also mixtures of vodka + vinegar, glucose + vinegar, vodka + vinegar + glucose + sugar, and in none of these cases did cyanobacteria appear!!! If you had any experience (which I highly doubt), then the cyanobacteria did not come from vodka, but from an improper biological balance in the aquarium and the inability to analyze the situation.

Daniel9952

Was - was not, can - cannot, it's probably not for you to decide. I expressed my opinion.

Chad

You gave advice, not an opinion; that's two very different things. Make a note of that!!!

Nicole

Off-topic, you are following this thread. Please give the topic starter some fair advice, don't keep it to yourself, speak up.

Debra

Is this due to the forum rules?

Darrell7542

No, it is determined by moral principles!

Rachel9060

Denis, well that's clear, but the main thing is, what is your advice in the fight against Valdonia?

Michael3221

Do your moral principles include calling any opinion that disagrees with yours nonsense?

Anthony4281

For a small volume, it's difficult to say or advise anything. Wallonia grows in aquariums with both poor and ideal conditions. Based on my experience, I can say that the blue tang (Zebrasoma xanthurus) handles such problems very well, but it is not suitable for a nano aquarium; however, the Mithrax crab (Mithrax sculptus) will do just fine.

Bonnie

I would allow myself to disagree with this statement... The cyanosis/lower levels arise from the imbalance of the system, and the introduction of any foreign substances can cause imbalance (vodka, sugar, cocoa, coffee, tartar sauce, various chemicals)... In other words, it is possible that only a small dose was introduced, and the system managed to cope with it without issues, which is why there were no unpleasant effects...

Lindsay

It is very difficult to determine the moment when to stop or reduce the dose. Hence the cyanide.
