1. What budget is planned?
2. Is 60 liters (dimensions preferably) essential?
Kristen2246
1. budget: ?
2. size 60x30x30 - this is a standard JUWEL aquarium with modified lighting in the lid.
James1625
Yes, the budget. You need to know how much you are willing to spend. Without this, it's better not to start. The size of the aquarium is very poor. With the cost of one kg of live rock at 200, it makes no sense to save on the aquarium. You need to calculate the aquarium, lighting, and necessary equipment, and then everything else. If I were you, I would base the calculations on the dimensions of the aquarium approximately 60x40x45.
Jill1815
I understand that the width is not suitable. I am considering the dimensions of the space. This aquarium was purchased for a specific area, and there is absolutely no way to place a wider one (it would obstruct the passage). There are no free walls in this room, except for this space. If the size is categorically unsuitable, I will think about it. The idea was to remove everything, fill it with salt, sand, and stones... and set timers for the light.
William
In my opinion, such a size of aquarium is acceptable. However, there are nuances regarding the water; unfortunately, you can't do without osmosis at home, as pharmacy distilled water costs 5 per liter, and you will need to replace at least 6 liters per week, not counting the salting itself. It's also unrealistic to find a company that sells osmosis of the required quality, and you need to transport it home as well. I faced all of this myself, not to mention the problems caused by the poor quality of purchased water, and in the end, I still installed osmosis at home.
Dennis
You will need to buy:
- sand (special for the sea)
- LCD
- cosmos
- salt
- filter
- flow pump
- lamps for the sea
- timer, maybe more than one
well, maybe I missed something else...
So you need quite a bit of money
And the living creatures are not cheap either; my 30 liters cost about 500 USD.
Jacob4800
The question is not about money, but about the beginning... the lamps must be critically at the very start... or can it be after salting or during...
Andrew7823
During the startup phase (which lasts a couple of months), the light is gradually increased. It's best to use ATI lamps.
Judy
And by power 24 W + my 2x15? Is that how I understood it, or are my ones completely removed???
Jacob7201
aquarium 60*40*45 and 4*24 as an option
David4968
Another question: water. Does everyone have osmosis? Or does someone buy water? Question: which one?
Ryan
Everyone is 99% sure
You can buy any water, but with a TDS level not higher than 002.
Amy5070
And only he, well, as he pointed out, the closer to 000, the better.
Jerry
Here is the first obstacle. Although you can buy distillate for the launch. As I read, the first substitutions occur after 2 months. You can buy the same distillate for topping up. And over time, come up with a place for osmosis.
Justin
I used Kodak water in an emergency for a while, it had 005. As for the other parameters, I'm not aware...

Leave the osmosis and the feelings about it alone for now. I know of renowned sailors in the city who don't even know what this installation and the aquas look like in perfect condition. Osmosis might still seem like Disneyland to you compared to other problems.
Robert1845
I don't think they use tap water. Anyway, it won't be possible without osmosis or purchased distilled water.
Rebecca
You answered your own question - STORE. This doesn't mean that if there is no installation, water flows from the tap. I think that's clear.
Kristin
It is very easy to install under the kitchen sink, taking 10 minutes. You drink normal water and it's good for the aquarium.
Martha
I can only take it out and disconnect it from under the sink without swearing. I need to come up with sliding rails and hang it on them.
Diana3118
I poured store-bought water for a long time, its TDS turned out to be 130! and apart from a thread, there were no particular problems, at least no one died.
Linda
It's not a fact that there won't be harmful substances in other water.
Tracy
TDS indicates the presence of ANY impurities in the water. If it is calcium or magnesium (as may be the case for you), that is fine, but if there are silicates or phosphates, that will NOT be good.
Michelle5859
You need to forget about osmosis and make a final decision:
1. Size of the aquarium
2. Type of desired marine aquarium (reef, fish-only, mixed)
Then the following will come:
1. Lighting
2. Equipment.
And then it will be "water in the house" along with the flood.
Kayla7655
Dear all, we are currently measuring and determining phosphates and silicates only in the air.
Javier5186
Therefore, your aquarium is in excellent condition. Keep pouring in the same spirit for another year, then write to us about your "alternative," maybe someone will support your innovation.
Thomas1044
What do you use to measure, if it's not a secret? Because I personally only measure in water, using drop tests.
Steven
Thank you for the sharpness. I mean, I still haven't decided on the aquarium, and you are telling me about TDS, how to measure it, etc. From my tests: electronic pH, Tetra KH, reflectometer, and Ptero Ca, which I measured twice. From this set, I have been using pH and the reflectometer for a year, and I measured KH two or three times. Yes, the advice to acquire an osmosis system and a TDS meter is a serious foundation and guidance for starting a marine aquarium.
Sarah5423
1. The size remains the same as in the first posts.
2. This will be a reef (if it's possible for a couple of clowns to survive - great, if not...).
3. Lighting - questions: can we add a marine light to the existing lamps?
4. Equipment: at the first stage, do we need a flow pump, or can we create the same flow with the existing pump by just changing the filters?
My first question was the following: is water added first, and then all the previous questions, or the other way around?
Robert800
Can you recommend a company? Their variety is great, based on personal experience or technical knowledge.
Natalie
HM Digital TDS Meter 3 - I found one with a built-in thermometer... Or is it like all 2-in-1 electrical devices - not very good quality?
Brent8919
Oh... people... Your filter doesn't really filter anything. It's fine to drink osmosis water, it's even beneficial. There won't be any salt deposits. Don't confuse distillate with osmosis. Osmotic water is obtained through physical filtration, meaning the water doesn't change its properties, all impurities are simply removed... So the myth that osmosis water shouldn't be consumed is just nonsense. Buy the water sold for children and measure the TDS with a meter... (Morshynska non-carbonated water shows between 25 and 80 depending on the batch, and mine is about the same after osmosis...)
Andrew4194
Thank you for your support. There are topics for discussing osmotic water on this forum; I have read them but haven't drawn any conclusions or participated in the discussion. I will be looking for a place for osmosis, but right now the question is different.
Jessica5348
Well, after I found out that I was pouring into the aquarium, I urgently set up an osmosis system at home. I'm saying this to point out that the devil is not as terrible as he is painted, especially since my aquarium is tiny, so it was easy to shift the balance in 25 liters of water, but I by no means encourage such an experiment.
If you already have a filter at home, you can just buy a membrane and adapters for it; it won't take up much space. That's exactly what I did; I had a three-stage filter "Our Water."
Sheila
In general, I understood that the person wanted to transform the existing aquarium into a sea setup, to do it cheaply and simply, but everyone is suggesting starting with a sketch of a spaceship. I can't understand why the existing aquarium isn't satisfactory for everyone; we can start with that. We can add a backpack filter, nano corals, salt, sand, and live rocks, and then expand as opportunities and desires allow.
Jill1815
First, all the necessary items are acquired, and then the salting and launching process begins.
Lindsay
This method is faster but more expensive. The old equipment will either have to be sold for half the price, given away, or it will gather dust on the shelf. It's better to calculate everything in advance and buy what is needed without wasting extra money on "intermediate" purchases.
Christopher4108
Of everything, only the filter and lamps may be unnecessary, while the rest can easily move to a larger space.
Anne4851
Everything that is set up in a small aquarium will turn out to be unnecessary: filter, lamps, water pumps, etc.
Heather
Well, it depends on the volume you're moving. A flow pump might come in handy, there are already lamps, just the filter, and here the price is 100.
Melissa2062
You can also add a marine lamp, but the question is which ballast you will connect it to and where you will place it. Do you have a lid? According to my calculations, for a mini setup, it is easier and sometimes even cheaper to buy LED lights. Experts may correct me, but you will need about 4 stars with 3 diodes each, with a power of 3 watts (at 700 mA they will output about 2.2 watts per unit).
Stephanie3084
I wouldn't say that this option is cheaper; the lamp with a controller cost me 1200 for 3 stars. It might have been cheaper if I had soldered it myself and understood it.
Michelle9986
I look at forums with aquariums sized 30x30x30 and it seems like a reef is possible, is it really that complicated? Of course, it's always better to have more. But for now, I'm working with what I have, which is this aquarium.
Andrew4194
It's difficult. To understand this, you need to spend some time with the sea. You are given advice, but you don't take it in. You can make it in such sizes, but everything will be inconvenient and unattractive. You are stuck on this size and that's it. I highly doubt that where the aquarium 60x30x30 is placed, you can't put a 60x40x40. If your size situation is so dire, then buy a San San light with two 24 T5 lamps, a small circulation pump, 4-5 kg of live rock, and some sand. Pour in the sand, salt the water, place the rock, and practice... There's no point in putting a skimmer in such a volume, so weekly water changes are essential.
Jeffrey496
the sizes are really very inconvenient, but this is a niche for an aquarium, there is no more space... Will the live rocks be enough for this volume? And is filtration needed, what should be placed inside?
Kenneth7331
It's not difficult! A normal cube for yourself... I have one like that, and I'll be making it soon... just show a bit of imagination, and it might turn out quite well. Anything is possible if you want it...
Well, if a person doesn't have the opportunity to get a larger size, should they give up the sea? Nonsense... It will just be a little reef, not a big one.
Scott8536
Live stones (J.K.) come in different weights... The weight of live stones (J.K.) in kg is a conditional unit... Sometimes they are 30 by 30 cm in size and weigh 1.5 kg, while other times they can be the size of a fist and weigh 2 kg...
Rodney3101
What does it mean to have a niche for the aquarium? Will it be built into something, or do you mean a cabinet? Believe me, the sea is a "swamp" that pulls you in. And as a girl, when you enter the "Marine Marketplace" section, you'll want to add more and more invertebrates to the aquarium. Well, I already wrote to you about filtration. What exactly are you asking about?
Kayla7655
Post a photo of your niche, then we can give more specific advice.
Nicole2404
How can what we are offering not fit on your cabinet? I will repeat, all your old items, namely the lid with the lamps and the aquarium, should be sold or given away. You can place a properly sized aquarium on your cabinet or that spot.
Alexander
I'm in shock... So what's the deal with that bulky thing? I don't even know what to say; you could easily put a NORMAL aquarium on that stand. Why are you so fixated on your old one? Why complicate your life? What kind of foolish saving is this? If you want a sea, then do it properly; otherwise, it's just nonsense. That's it, I have nothing more to say to you. I get the impression that you aren't even trying to understand what you're being told... Why give advice if it's all in vain...
Joshua9340
You still haven't understood what you were reading after two years of rereading. I think you need to read carefully for another month, or even longer.
Stephen5841
The rabbit won't even notice that the aquarium takes up the entire stand, not just part of it. And the kids will only be happy.
