• Please advise on setting up a 500-liter aquarium.

Hello everyone! Please advise. Many say that for a proper setup in an aquarium, there should be 7-10% live rock (LR) of the total volume of the aquarium, which in my case amounts to 40-50 kg. To be honest, this amount hits the wallet hard. Is it possible to buy about 25 kg of dry rock and 10 kg of live rock to start? Naturally, I would place the dry rock at the bottom and the live rock on top, and the bacteria will eventually spread everywhere. Or are there other options? Are there ready-made bacteria available for a faster setup? If anyone has experience, please share. Thank you in advance.

10-15% will be closer to the truth. You can. You need a total of 50-75 kg. So we take 35 kg of dry reef rocks and 10 kg of live rocks to start. Then we can gradually add live rocks. They are sold. But you can start perfectly well without them, especially if you get water from an existing aquarium. Someone will do water changes and share. I actually poured in 60 liters of water from the Azov Sea.

Thank you for the prompt response.

Water from an established aquarium is good, but you need at least 30% from the established tank for 500 liters. You can use PRODIBIO START UP; I've started several aquariums with it, and everything went smoothly without any major issues, and we added fish after two weeks, and no one died. One package will be enough for such an aquarium, with an approximate price of 20 dollars.

I think this action will disrupt the system in the future. It's better to wait and buy the stones right away.
